This article is typical of the the kind that is exploding across social media.

Clearly this is a long hot summer. Are these record temperatures the result of climate warming? Is climate warming the result primarily of CO2 buildup? Is fossil fuel industrialization primarily to blame for this? Maybe. Though this is very difficult to prove, and assertions to that effect are riddled with confirmation bias.

All of which is irrelevant when considering the policy questions. Notably these articles do not consider policy. They simply assume that an effective policy to mitigate climate warming exists and that if adopted and vigorously enforced will solve the problem.

Regardless of the causes of climate warming, the following is true.

Climate related deaths are at an all time low of a declining trend. This is because of technological and economic progress. The world is better able to cope with climate threats of all kinds. Secondly, eliminating or dramatically reducing fossil fuel usage is economically suicidal (will cause multiple more deaths and hardships than climate warming itself), to the point of being basically impossible. Even the subsidization of more renewable sources entails the use of more fossil fuels as backup sources. And the attempt to lower our "carbon footprints" in this way will have no effect on climate warming anyway.

So, sensible climate/fuel policy entails MORE use of fossil fuels and nuclear in order to provide methods of coping with whatever extreme warming occurs. Cheap, reliable air conditioning for example.

You don't find much of that on social media.
