Dilermando Reis (1916-1977) born in Guaratinguetá city, state of São Paulo, in September 22, 1916. As a child he began studying guitar with his father, the guitarist Francisco Reis. In 1931, at the age of 15, already known as the best guitarist in the city, he met the guitarist Levino Albano da Conceição, who performed in Guaratinguetá in a tour of the interior of São Paulo. With the consent of his parents Dilermando became his pupil, and went on to accompany him on his excursions for the next two years.

"In the beginning, I was studying with Levino, and he, in the first recitals, did not present me as a student. But soon after three months he was doing the first part and leave the second for i play. "

In 1933, Dilermando went to Rio de Janeiro for the first time under the tutelage of Levino. He met João Pernambuco and began teaching classes in several localities, such as the Bandolim de Ouro store, where he bought his first good guitar, a "Do Souto". In this store he also met great musicians like Luperce Miranda, Rogério Guimarães and Pixinguinha. In 1935 he began teaching at the A Guitarra de Prata store, where he continued teaching for the next 25 years.

Still in 1935, worked in Rádio Guanabara accompanying freshmen. In 1936, he started working at Rádio Transmissora, where he performed alongside guitarist Rogério Guimarães, and had his first program dedicated to guitar solos. At Radio Clube of Brazil, he formed one of the first orchestras of guitars to be heard, with members of the level of Osmar Abreu (father of brothers Sérgio and Eduardo Abreu, who later came to perform a meteoric career) Euclides Lemos and Solon Ayala.

The first recordings as soloist were realized in 1941, with the waltz "Noite de Lua" and "Magoado" in 78 RPMs. In 1944 the second record, with "Dança Chinesa" and "Adeus Pai João" , he recorded 10 records in 78 rotations and 20 songs during the decade, besides accompanying several singers, such as the singer Bibi Ferreira in this recording of 1941.

These were followed by several other albums that put him as the best known guitarist in Brazil, such as the 1952 recording of the waltz "Se Ela Perguntar", with lyrics by Jair Amorim, in an orchestral arrangement performed by the singer Carlos Galhardo. In the same year, he recorded the two greatest classics of the Brazilian popular repertoire, the maxixe "Sons de Carrilhões", by João Pernambuco, and the "Abismo de Rosas" waltz by Américo Jacomino (Canhoto).

In 1956, he signed a contract with Radio Nacional to perform on the program "Sua Majestade, o Violão" that remained on the air until 1969, and earned him the recording of another album under the same name in 1956. "Sua Majestade, o Violão", is his only 10-inch phonogram, with arrangements by "Clair de Lune" by Claude Debussy, and others such as the Nocturne n2 Op9 by Frédéric Chopin.

In 1957 he began a record cycle on records of 33 RPM that lasted until 1975. In 1970, Radamés Gnattali dedicated to the guitarist Concert nº1 recorded the same year. As a teacher, he taught excellent guitarists, among them Darci Vilaverde and Bola Sete. He was also a teacher of Maristela Kubitscheck, daughter of President Juscelino, of whom he was a close friend and serenades partner.

Dilermando Reis died in Rio de Janeiro on January 2, 1977, of pulmonary edema, was buried in his hometown, Guaratinguetá, in the São Miguel cemetery. These days, his hometown holds an annual music festival that bears his name. The "Festival Dilermando Reis" features in its programming with several recitals of guitar, presentation of choral groups, and seresta.
