A Day In November - Leo Brouwer
This piece was composed by Leo Brower, a composer and a guitarist. It was written for a Cuban movie of the same name, Un Die De November, translated it simply means A Day In November.
The movie was released in 1972 and it was about a young man named Esteban, who was totally devoted to the cause of the Revolution against Fulgencio Batista. One day, Esteban is diagnosed with a cerebral aneurism, which causes him to take stock of his life as a revolutionary and to reconsider his relationships to his family--to his mother and brother, particularly--and his friends.
Leo Brower is one of the greatest composer for the guitar and he has composed etudes, concertos, suites and many other forms of music for the guitar. He has also written many film scores. He decided to concentrate more on composing as he couldn't really perform the guitar much due to a hand injury.
While doing my research on this piece I was surprised to find that this piece is used for deep meditation and some even call it a prayer. Probably this piece makes us reflect about life and our purpose for living. We all need a purpose to wake up everyday and to move on. Just like Esteban, Brouwer too went through a very trying moment in his life when he discovered he couldn't really do what he loved doing so much, performing. I'm sure he would have lost his purpose in life, a reason to wake up everyday. So he had to take stock of his life and find other alternatives, which in his case was composing.
I believe that sometimes in life even if you can't find a purpose, the purpose will find you...
