🏮A city a story #14 - Happy Chinese New Year in Chinatown of London!在倫敦中國城歡慶中國年！

According to lunar calendar, last Thursday night was Chinese New Year’s Eve! Follow the custom, Chinese people would celebrate the holiday until this Tuesday, the fifth day of New Year, and then go back to work or run business!

It’s not only the time for Chinese people to enjoy big reunion meal with family but also the time visiting friends and relatives.

根據中國曆法，上星期四除夕夜開始進入中國新年！大部分華人也都慶祝這個節日到至少大年初五，才開始開工上班！這段期間不只是與家人團聚與大肆吃喝的時光，另外也是拜訪親朋好友的好時節！（雖然也常是現代人的壓力源之一😌）

Because my family and I spend the big holiday in England this year, we were quite curious how the overseas Chinese celebrate the big holiday here! Thus, we decided to visit Chinatown of London and explore it!

由於今年在英國過年，所以趁著到倫敦順道到中國城走了一趟，除了想嚐嚐東方味解思鄉情，也想看看在倫敦的華人們如何過節，感受一下氣氛！😍

Apparently, the red round lanterns are the typical image or symbol represent Chinese New Year in Chinatown! During our visit, I did see many locals and visitors take photos and selfies with these hanging lanterns!

With these decorations, it did make me feel the familiar festival atmosphere, and I almost had the illusion as if I was back to my hometown!

透過滿街高掛的紅燈籠，這些裝飾所傳達的感染力量果然不容小覷！除了傳達了華人過節喜歡紅色象徵喜氣的意象，熟悉的情境也讓人更增添了幾分思鄉情呢！💖

The meals on Chinese New Year’s Eve are always the highlight of the holiday, so allow me to do some introductions here!

談到華人過年，整桌的除夕大餐絕對是重點中的重點！這邊也讓我介紹幾道吉祥象徵的必備年菜。（幾天前有發了篇文曬曬我的年夜飯，有興趣的朋友可以看看喔！）

Take the reunion meal of my family for example, there are several meals would show up every year. And some of them are prepared with special meanings! And they are mainly the best wishes hidden in some of the dishes!

以我家的年夜飯為例，有幾道固定會出現的菜色，其中都蘊含有為家人祝願來年順利好運的美好寓意！以下分別介紹～

• Fish: Wish our family have an abundant and rich year!

🥟招財進寶金元寶-水餃

• Dumplings: We take the shape of dumplings in symbolic of gold ingot! And you know, it’s always a pleasure to have much fortune in the coming year!

🥗好彩頭-蘿蔔

• White Radish (mooli): Owing to the pronunciation, it implies a good beginning for the entire new year!

You may find some dishes differ from your Chinese friends' tables, and the reason could be attributed to different regions or pronunciations!
