Smoking a cigar, for me, is an experience. It's a contemplative pursuit. When I offer cigars to friends that don't often smoke, I sometimes see them struggle.

Cool, it is really frowned upon now, but a good cigar gives so much pleasure.
Just a few quick tips, especially for people that are used to smoking cigarettes.
Don't go for the slim cigarillos. The flavor is usually sharper and people tend to smoke these more as a cigarette, inhaling and all. This kills all the flavor and especially the experience.
Do not tip off (don't know if that's the correct term in English) the cigar. The ash will fall off on its own. Until it falls off it also "seals" the flavor and makes the cigar lit longer. Usually a cigar will extinguish quickly because people tip off the ash, like they do with cigarettes.
And finally the nausea part. What I see happening is that this mostly occurs when people try to smoke a cigar like a cigarette. Short puffs instead of really taking your time, accidentally inhaling, and not taking the time to savor the experience. There is a reason a good cigars takes some hours to smoke, don't try to rush it.
Oh, and one more thing. I always keep the band on as long as possible. I'm using it as a protection against the fat and moisture everybody has on their hands.
