A Brief Cigar Review – K A Kendall 7-20-4steemCreated with Sketch.

in #cigars8 years ago (edited)

The 7-20-4 has a complex blend that is handcrafted with Honduran, Nicaraguan, Mexican & Colombian long-filler, a Costa Rican binder, and the Brazilian Mata-Fina wrappers. After normal curing and aging, the 7-20-4 are aged again in Spanish cedar boxes for another 120 days to mellow.

Wrapper: Brazilian Mata Fina
Binder: Columbia
Filler: Nicaragua, Honduran, Mexican
Size: 5 5/8 x 46  ( Corona  )
MSRP: $6.50

The pre-light draw has intense flavors of sweet raisin with a light citrus note.  It is very pleasant.  The scent is just that of barnyard, which is a very common cigar aroma before lighting.

I love the pigtail on the cap, and the closed foot:

After lighting, and a few puffs in, the flavor profile develops.  I get a very sweet citrus flavor with some cinnamon zest, as well as pepper on the finish. Some graham cracker is mixed in as well.

I really dig the flavor profile of the 7-20-4 so far.  The smoke output is very bountiful and quite smooth.  There is no problem retro-haling the creamy smoke.  The draw is also perfect.  The burn line isn't on point at times, but it works itself out, of course with my OCD I touch it up before it does.

The citrus note fades and in it's place is more of a spicy chocolate.  The cocoa could also be describe as to have a little espresso mixed in. The body is upper-to-medium, and quite smooth with an amazing aroma. I can tell that this tobacco is aged properly, it provides flavors that work well together and do not dominate each other.  It has balance, and creaminess. As well as some complexity.

Overall I really love this cigar.  The properly aged tobacco, the construction, the flavors, the amount of smoke, THE PRICE, these are all pro's about the 7-20-4.  Any con's are negligible and not worth mentioning. All I know is I need to buy more, this one was gifted to me recently by a good friend in an online cigar forums. The only other one I have had before was also part of a trade.  At this price, it needs to have a regular place in my humidor.

I really enjoyed the 7-20-4 by KA Kendall. It was a pleasant surprise. I rate it 9 out of 10

Haven't run into this one yet, ....have to keep an eye out for it or order it through my local shop !! Thx for the heads up, I'm more than a little bit of a sucker for that design, clean, elegant, and a little sexy. Looks tasty just sitting there o.o

Definitely give it a try, especially for the price. You can order from Famous-smoke if your shop doesn't have them. I agree about the design!

I am blessed with a high end cigar and liquor store ( one I worked at for 5 years) that will order anything you request if they can get it. Their stock on hand is amazing , walk in humidor with over 250 different selections ranging from 2.00 to 40.00 as well as a million dollar Liquor and wine inventory that include some of the rarest whiskeys. They get the entire Buffalo Trace lines( Weller, Stag, Van Winkle, etc) and they ship as well <.< to anywhere in the world( local laws as to tobacco and alcohol shipping apply )

Wow, Really? Can you get your hands on Van Winkle? None ever get's shipped out here to Oregon, if they do they are gobbled up by those in the know.

What area of the USA is the shop you worked at? In Oregon, cigar smokers are sparse, not like the east coast or south. So my nearest B&M is about 30 minutes away, although they have a great selection.

Facebook cigar groups have kept be connected over the years. Are you part of any?

No...not active in social media other than Steem it.
Yes they carry Van Winkle in 12 15 20 and the 23 year old.....but....it is a highly allocated Bourbon that only releases once a year in limited amounts and they will not ship that particular item but they will most anything else .
If you are in Oregon your not too far away. If you ever find yourself driving down the 101 in northern California it will take you through a little town called Eureka right on Humboldt Bay, stop and find a place called Myrtlewood Liquors/ John's fine Cigars or google them and go to their web site o.o

Very cool. Yeah that is not far from me. I am in a suburb of Portland.

Oh....there is no such thing as OCD when caring for a fine cigar. The ritual surrounding it is as enjoyable as actually smoking it.

Agreed! Especially with the storage conditions
