A Brief Cigar Review – Drew Estates Undercrown

The DE Undercrown is a base-line cigar that has become a go-to smoke for many aficionados.  A Mexican San Andres Negro wrapper on the cigar gives it a maduro look.  The dark blue and gold band complement it nicely.

The pre-light draw has a heavy sent of pungent sweet raisin.  I mean very pronounced.  I get this from many of the more full cigars in the Arturo Fuente line, but they do not have any of the same regional tobacco as the Undercrown.  A punch cut and a quick poke of my pipe tool produces a perfectly open draw. 

I forget how much smoke these cigars produce, it's fantastic, very cloudy and smooth.  Many of the Drew Estate non-infused line provide a huge amount of smoke, the Liga Privada and such.  

The flavor nuances I taste at the beginning are sweet milk chocolate, faint cedar, and a black pepper on the finish that balances it very well.  It works nicely together and is a delight to smoke.  I am not the hugest Drew Estate fan.  Maybe because of the large hype and fanbase, which leads to a little bit of overpriced cigars due to the brand-name aspect.  Drew Estate are indeed quality, but slightly over-priced in my experience.

Ahhh, as I sit here with my lit cigar and my cheap whiskey with coke, I instantly feel relaxed as always.  A good premium cigar always slows my mind down, and eases my chronic back muscle spasms.  It's amazing that relaxing your mind and de-stressing, can then relax and heal the body.  If you are not a cigar "smoker", it is something worth checking in to, and I am always available to offer any advise.

The flavors are staying consistent throughout the cigar.  There isn't much of a change-up or complexity, which is neither good or bad, it all just depends on what you are feeling up too.  The construction has been pretty good, with only a slight uneven burn, but I get that with a thicker wrapped cigar due to being a slower puffer.  I did not have to re-light, even when I placed it down for a few minutes once or twice, and smoke time was about 1.5 hours.  

Overall the Drew Estates Undercrown is a delight of a cigar, and reasonably priced.  I rate it a 8.5 out of 10.
