Christmas Bazaar at School

in #christmas7 years ago (edited)

Another fundraising time at my son's school and since it's a month to go til Christmas, they were having a Christmas Bazaar.

There were about 30 vendors at least (at the bazaar), ranging from home baked goodies, arts and crafts, photography, to chocolate fundraise for the figure skating club, and also food drive by the local hockey team to fill up the food bank for Salvation Army.

Nice to see the bazaar was packed with people, remembering it was snowing hard we were having yesterday. We arrived as they opened the door and people were plenty to be seen already.

Just like at farmer's market, most of the baked goods (at our local bazaars) can be way overpriced though, makes it hard for us to support the cause sometimes, so we often get arts and crafts instead, however yesterday we purchased some chocolates to support the figure skating club.

What about where you reside, has any Christmas Bazaar(s) started yet? 😊

Thanks for looking!

That's...a lot of snow :O Guess you're all used to it seeing as there looks like there was a pretty decent turnout anyway :)

I always figured the things were overpriced because they weren't mass produced? But I don't know the closest we've come to helping with fundraisers is making brownies for the canteen at gymnastics to sell and they sell most of the things they get given for $2 or less per slice/cupcake/whatever.

I'm going to assume that some of the schools around here have started doing things like that, think most of them are in December in the last few weeks of term. But not out of the question seeing as there were Christmas decorations sproinging up earlier in the month x_x

I don't know for sure as we don't do school

This year's snowfall for November has reached a new record news said 😂 Last year we were buried in, this year we are, bloody hell, how should we dig up our way out of the house 😂

Cupcake starts at $3.50 here for only buttercream, and it goes up from there depending the flavors, toppings, and decorations 😁

I do understand homemade, small industry products, arts and crafts, most of the time are much more expensive compared to store-bought, big chains and big companies, and that would make sense esp. when it is customized per the customer's order/request.

But a mini loaf (not small, but mini loaf) of banana bread sometimes is offered at $9, that is a no-no for my purse, especially when I know it is not done at a licensed kitchen, that is asking too much.

A licensed baker can charge much because they have to pay this and that, for papers and tax, if you know what I mean. And even so, a customer or two would sometimes protest of the price of a slice of cake that is filled with ganache, covered in buttercream, decorated fully in fondant and 3D shaped, and the whole cake will be enough for 30 ppl, a slice would be $4 (let's say), when a cake like that would take long hours to make, precision and details and headache. So for a mini loaf of banana bread at $9 is jaw dropping for me 😅

The majority of bakers at farmer's market and bazaars in my city don't apply for any licensing, so I can't justify spending that much for a small amount of baked goods 😅 That's why we prefer to get arts and crafts.

That's the problem with fundraisers at schools. Prices can be a bit steep. I remember those days when my kids were in school. Now it is the grandchildren's turn...

It's actually the market here, Ceci, all bazaars and farmers market I've been to, always steep price

We are in oil and gas city, could be the excuse as well and plus we are in the north, general prices are high 😅

Well you have no shortage of snow. Where is this? :)

Also, what is a stepford wife level 0? haha

NEBC, Canada 😊

You are the second person that asked me on the same day! 😂😂😂😂
