Christmas in Thailand
I actually like Christmas, despite it's roots in Christianity I think it's a special time of the year for catching up and spending quality time with friends and family.
Here in Buddhist Thailand, year by year, Christmas gets bigger and bigger even though it's not a public holiday (yet!), the malls and shops get decorated and the Christmas songs play from October to sometime about mid March.
Kids are starting to learn about Santa and I have to field difficult questions from pupils asking if they have been bad because Santa never visits them!
Again, despite my disdain of rampant consumerism, seeing the malls dressed up in their tropical Christmas attire and people taking selfies in front of the decorations and 'trees' does fill me with a modicum of Christmas spirit.
If Christmas brings just a little happiness and cheer to even just a few people no matter their ingrained belief system, then long may it's spread continue. But please mall managers, a few days of 'chestnuts roasting on an open fire' is quite sufficient!

I agree, it is the music which is the killer. I'm just relieved I don't work in a shop and have Christmas songs on a loop. All the rest is pretty and magical. I prefer the Polish response to cold, dark weather - warm spiced vodka of many flavours!
Ah good I will share some Xmas in Malaysia pics. We celebrate everything here lol, today is Muhammads birthday so I'm enjoying the empty streets and laid back vibe on this blistering hot n sunny day. Cheers mate

Yes please! I really enjoy this sort of cross culturalism with a twist, and with the religion removed! It's also a scorcher up here in Bangkok today too! And that the greatnthingnwith Malaysia and Thailand. The huge number of public holidays to cater for everyone lol
Yep, I see u said something about pupils? So you're teaching English or history at an international school? What district of BKK ? If ever venture down to KL definitely holla. I own and operate a preschool with my wife here and both my parents were educators, so it's in the blood. We're trying to bring a more holistic approach as we see the ages of 2-7 to be where we can really infiltrate the inner workings of indoctrination.
