December 24th- Caring for Others

in #christmas8 years ago

Today is my final day as guest host for this wonderful initiative. I want to thank @gavvet for bringing this initiative to the community's attention. Carrying out the suggestions of this initiative has helped me to create some amazing and unforgettable memories with my family. My kids especially got a huge kick out of it. Each day they asked, "Alright dad, what good deed are we going to do today?" At its heart, that is what this initiative is all about. It is about looking at yourself and asking, "What can I do to show love, caring and kindness today?"

So what good deed are we going to do today?

Today's theme is about showing your loved ones that you care about them.

My kids have decided that they want to focus on their mom today. I think this is a brilliant idea and I will do whatever I can to support them in their endeavors. However, I have something a little different in mind.

My sister's husband is a really great guy. He is a wonderful father who puts his kids above himself in every way imaginable. Like many people, he lives paycheck to paycheck. He goes without in order to make sure his kids never do. He works two or three jobs in order to make sure that his kids do not have to go without much. When he's not working, he is spending time with his kids. I have never seen him do a single thing for himself. More importantly, I have never seen him complain. He doesn't want money from others. He takes pride in providing for his family.... and he does one heck of a job doing it. In short, he shows kindness and love every day. But what about him?

Today I am going to do two things for my brother in law. First, I am going to text him the paragraph I just wrote. Second, I am going to invite him out for a nice steak dinner. He deserves some fun and some laughs (I'm sure it will start with laughing about my sappy text). He deserves something just for him. He deserves to know that people respect the heck of him. He actually deserves a lot more than that... but this is a start.

Perhaps this video can help to inspire you to show your loved ones that you care about them...

This is the twenty-fourth way of serving in 25 ways over 25 days leading up to Christmas.

Would you like to show your loved ones that you care bout them?

Its easy:
1. Watch the short clip
2. Follow the instructions
3. Make it happen
4. Then tweet or otherwise share your results using... #lighttheworld... encourage others to participate
5. 25 days is enough consistency to form a new habit

If every day this December we are slightly more mindful of others we may find ourselves with a new great habit to continue into the new year and beyond.

THREE SIMPLE WAYS TO GET INVOLVED

  • Take a moment to enter all of your friends’ birthdays into your mobile device. Then make a point to wish them well on their special day.
  • Leave an anonymous gift for a family member.
  • Plan a special Christmas Eve program with your family and friends.

OTHER WAYS TO PARTICIPATE

  • Go around the dinner table tonight and tell each person why he or she is loved.
  • Text an old friend who’s been on your mind lately.
  • Send a handwritten note to someone.
  • Protect someone’s good name. Don’t gossip.
  • Try to be a better listener. Make eye contact, ask questions, and don’t just wait for your turn to talk.
  • Help a friend who is going through a rough time by offering to make him or her food, helping around the house, or just taking time to listen.
  • Visit JustServe.org for more ways to #LIGHTtheWORLD in your community (U.S. and Canada only).

@hanshotfirst
I agree with @countrygirl, you did a good job, and thank you for sharing and standing in for @gavvet.
I also, that sometimes the small things you do goes the furthest to show other people you care and can make a big difference in somebody else's life.

For sure! Thank you for the kind words and for following the initiative!
