You may want to ask why I chose to write on a topic that is purely religious, bearing in mind that, this platform is not a religious one. My desires to pen this was born out of a deeper reflection on the suffering and death of our Lord and personal Savior.

WHAT IS LENT?

Lent is a period of fasting, moderation, and self-denial traditionally observed by Catholics and some Protestant denominations. It begins with ASH WEDNESDAY and ends with EASTER SUNDAY.

Have you been bereaved or hit by death?

Especially to a close ally?

You can imagine the pains of loosing such loved ones. That's how it feels when you take a deeper reflection on the humiliation, suffering and death of our Lord Jesus Christ.

His death on the tree of Calvary is symbolic to the redemption of mankind from all forms of humiliation and afflictions.

We are often reminded that in obedience to God, he accepted death on the cross for the Salvation of mankind.

Like I earlier stated, this write up was penned down after a deep meditations on the Fourteen (14)steps or stations of the cross.

Let me quickly highlight them for the sake of non Catholics here:

Source

-Jesus is condemned to death

-Jesus receives the cross

-Jesus falls the first time under his cross

-Jesus is met by his Blessed Mother

-The cross is laid upon Simon of cyrene

-Veronica wipes the face of jesus

-Jesus falls the second time

-The women of Jerusalem mourn for our lord

-Jesus falls for the third time

-Jesus is stripped of his garments

-Jesus is nailed to the cross

-Jesus dies on the cross

-Jesus is taken down from the cross

-Jesus is placed in the sepulchre.

Every Christlike person would not hesitate to journey with Christ on this part to redemption.

The Lenten observances is a yearly ritual in the Catholic Church and other orthodox churches all over the world. Lenten observances are embarked upon to remind us of who we are. The church at this time takes a mourning mood. Fasting, abstinence and arms giving is highly encouraged in the church's teaching.

What can you offer God in exchange for his sons death?

Are you a Catholic?

Do you attend stations of the cross?

This Lenten period avails us an opportunity to go closer to our redeemer again. So explore it and be reconciled with your creator.

Lent is a series of man made customs. There's no reason to observe them. Yes, we should remember what Jesus did. We shouldn't focus on Mary and pray to her and worship her as Catholics do.

Oh really! I think you need some expository on the subject matter bro. Your attempt to denigrate the person of Mary is disappointing bro, read through the essay again, the topic was aimed at espousing the relevance of Lenten observances whether it's man made or otherwise. Besides, Catholics don't worship Mary, we honour her.
