I am in a whatsapp group where we share the word of God also ask and answer questions relating to the bible and christianity generally.
Someone then ask a question that how can one run away from temptetation
The stated below were answers and suggestion complied :
HOW TO DEAL WITH TEMPTATION.
First we need to understand the concept of temptation because the Bible says 1 Corinthians 14:8 For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?
Temptation is a means by which the devil seeks to have SOMETHING in you. John 14:30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.
The Book of James taught us to count it all Joy, when we are tempted because the devil meant it evil towards our soul, but should we overcome it? It turns to a great blessing no mouth can express because no eyes can see nor any mind imagine it... and each victory you have over temptations help you overcome others (if you desire to)
OVERCOMING TEMPTATION
Temptations are in diverse ways.
- The Presumptuous
- The Meditative / Inspirational
Presumptuous Temptation is on the physical, you never planned it but it just jumps on you, e.g. a brother who suddenly encountered a seducing sister and vice versa, you didn't plan it, or you are on the way and you just found a big money on the floor,..... or you were called to falsify documents, its instantaneous, it never was in your mind, this occurs mostly on the physical and it's one of the greatest, powerful and heart thriving.
Overcoming this kind of temptation requires that you activate your feet and a continuous dying of your body everyday..
This is the kind of temptation which the Bible asks us to FLEE from, do not wait,...
You don't discuss it, don't think you can handle it you CANNOT, the Bible, says. RUN, your Commander on the battlefield, Jesus, says RUN, DO not wait, run as far as your feet could carry you, why?
Because you're human, the children of darkness are wise and cunning, your NO may be sharp at the beginning but they can overcome you by appealing to your reasoning, so don't wait to discuss anything RUN, there's a casualty of this in Proverbs 7.
This kind of temptation doesn't come often, they're strategically arranged by the devil when especially a blessing is on your way,
- The MEDITATIVE / INSPIRATIONAL
This is the most commonly experienced form of temptation, ever true believer experiences this almost everyday.
It's in the realm of your soul, your mind, you just find that a thought flashes your heart, might be of hatred, fornication, lust, jealousy, pride, etc. Perhaps through a what you saw or a sound you heard. Then your thought starts running wild, your mind starts misbehaving that most times you need to shout out to curb it.....
Friend, relax here is why....
Let's read 1 Kings 22:31 But the king of Syria commanded his thirty and two captains that had rule over his chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the king of Israel.
Demons fill the earth more than the way dusts fill an earth room when it's being swept in dry season. and they're running and working to mar someone's garment....

When a man talks to you, it enters through your ear physically, you brain interprets that sound and your mind understand what it means, you hear men through your ears, that's the summary,
But spirit beings are heard through our minds.... When a demon/angel/the Holy Spirit talks to you most times, you hear them with your mind
Not everyone is graced to hear spirit beings through the hearings, but most esp in the context of temptation its in the mind.
So that first thought that came to your mind when you saw a lady/young man, etc ain't yours, it's a suggestion a kind of inspiration/stirring by a demon close you at that time..
You wonder, why are demons close to me?
They're not close to you to harm you but to test you, God will not keep you away from temptations except the ones that are hard for you to overcome (remember Job) and each temptation has its escape route.
So it's when you start pondering and planning on how to carry out that suggestion that you fell or become a sinner.

James 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
IT IS WHAT YOU LOVE MOST
/YOUR ADDICTION WHEN YOU WERE A SINNER THAT BECOMES THE GREATEST TOOL IN THE HANDS OF YOUR TEMPTER.... AND ALWAYS KEEP YOUR HANDS AND MIND BUSY.
You need to DIE to that thing.
Then you become free.
