I normally get a lot of flak thrown my way when I say this, but I firmly believe the ball started rolling with Luther's reformation. There are so many different "churches" and so many thousands of people waving their bibles in the air telling anyone who will listen that Jesus saves and the bible holds all of life's answers. Then no one can seem to agree on what the bible says exactly.

No one bother's to ask the question of where the bible comes from. Who decided which writtings belonged and by what authority? How about the first four centuries of Christianity before the New Testament was even a thing? How did they know how to practice their faith without a bible to wave in the air? If the bible alone is the sole rule of faith, then how do we know which translations are true to the source and not adulterated in some way. Can the bible alone tell us which verisions of itself are orthadox and which ones are hereticle? Why should I believe pastor Joe's interpretation over pastor Bob's? Is it the pastor I agree with that determines what is truth? And most importantly, Which church can be traced all the way back to the day of pentacost?

The answers the these questions and so many more can be found with a simple Google search. Unfortunately, with a virtual universe of information at our finger tips, we seem perfectly content to not know nuthin'. Choose the church with the best band, most charismatic pastor and has members that belong to your social-economic demographic. Don't bother arguing doctrines because as long as you believe in Jesus, that's all that matters.

Indeed, the religion that prospered under constant and severe persecution and converted the known world virtually over night with it's radicle new world view that put to shame what was common knowledge before has become nothing more than a punchline in modern times. I guess Jesus was telling the truth after all when he warned us that a "house divided cannot stand."
