GOD OUR SAVIOUR

God is seen in the bible as the greatest supporter of the humble and the weak. Read these two passages, from the mouths of women of the bible. - one in the Old Testament and one in the New - who are amazed at what God is doing in their lives. Their trust in Him is vindicated.

Then Hannah prayed and said:

“My heart rejoices in the Lord;
in the Lord my horn[a] is lifted high.
My mouth boasts over my enemies,
for I delight in your deliverance.

“Do not keep talking so proudly
or let your mouth speak such arrogance,
for the Lord is a God who knows,
and by him deeds are weighed.

“The Lord brings death and makes alive;
he brings down to the grave and raises up.
1 Samuel 2: 1, 3, 6. (NIV)

And Mary said:

“My soul glorifies the Lord
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has been mindful
of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed,
for the Mighty One has done great things for me—
holy is his name.

His mercy extends to those who fear him,
from generation to generation.
He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;
he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
He has brought down rulers from their thrones
but has lifted up the humble.
He has filled the hungry with good things
but has sent the rich away empty.
Luke 1:46-53 (NIV)

Our trust in GOD is not always passive. Sometimes it is dynamics. there are moments in our lives when we have choices to mae and our action must be deliberate and determined. In different ways, David and Moses found the need for this immediate trust in GOD.

David took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd's bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine.

David said to the Philistine, 'You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.

This day the Lord will hand you over to me,..... All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord's and he will give all of you into our hands.' 1 Samuel 17: 40. 45-47

Moses answered the people, 'Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today' ....

Then the Lord said to Moses,

'Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on. Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground'. Exodus 14: 13, 15, 16.

For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end. Psalm 48:14 (NIV)
