The Reason Why There Is No Miracles in Your Life

Hello. This is Pastor Shin from CSA.

국민들이 대통령을 뽑는 이유는 잘살고 행복하게 해주기를 바라서입니다.

People (citizens) of a country vote for their president in hopes of him/her making their nation a better place to live.

그래서 그들의 기대가 무너지면 가차 없이 비난을 쏟아 붓고 데모를 일삼죠.

And when the president does not meet their expectations, he/she quickly becomes the scapegoat for everything.

대통령이나 국회의원들은 국민들의 눈치를 보면서 정책을 제시하고 홍보에 열을 올리는 이유이기도 하죠.

That’s why the candidates often come up with campaigns that seem wonderful in people’s eyes.

그러나 대다수의 국민들은 저마다 먹고 사는 일에 바빠서 정치가들의 잘못을 찾아서 지적할 마음의 여유도 없습니다.

But the majority of people are too busy to take a look at the candidate’s campaign and see what is wrong with it.

그렇다면 크리스천들의 최대 관심사는 무엇일까요? 자신의 믿음이 인생과 영혼의 행복을 가져다주기를 학수고대하고 있을 겁니다.

What is the main interest of Christians? They probably hope their faith to bring happiness and joy for their lives.

그래서 신앙의 연륜이 작지 않은 여러분에게 묻고 싶습니다. 그동안의 믿음이 기대를 저버리지 않고 있는지 말입니다.

So let me ask you: Does your faith meet your expectations?

말하자면 기독교를 믿는 여러분의 신앙이 책임을 다하고 있다고 생각하느냐입니다.

In other words, does your faith bring what faith should?

아쉽게도 대다수의 교인들은 자신들이 뽑은 국회의원이 잘하고 있는지 별로 관심이 없듯이, 자신의 신앙이 성경의 약속대로 잘살고 행복하게 살게 해주느냐를 꼼꼼히 따지지 않습니다.

Just like people not taking an interest in what these politicians are doing wrong, Christians usually don’t take an interest in whether their faith is doing okay or not.

그래서 제가 대신 말씀드릴게요.

So let me just say it on everyone’s behalf.

여러분의 믿음은 기대를 저버리고 있다고 말이죠.

Your faith is way below God’s expectations.

모든 크리스천들은 예수를 믿으면 축복을 받는다는 말에 동의하고 신앙을 선택하고 교회에 다니고 있습니다.

All Christians agree to accept Jesus and come to church, for there will be blessings if done so.

그러나 대부분의 교인들은 하나님을 모르는 세상 사람의 삶과 별반 다르지 않다. 말하자면 그동안의 믿음이 삶과 영혼을 책임지고 있지 못하다는 결론입니다.

But most of them are not too different from the secular people. Their faith is not really taking a good care of them.

그러나 이 땅에서의 삶은 기대하지 않더라도, 이 땅을 떠나면 영원한 천국에서 행복하게 살게 될 것을 막연하게 기대하면서 그게 믿음이라고 믿고 있습니다.

But they don’t seem to really care, since they expect to enter heaven even if they don’t get much on earth.

그러나 예수님은 그렇게 말씀하신 적이 없으세요.

Unfortunately, Jesus never said such a thing.

그래서 오늘은 그 얘기를 하고 싶습니다.

So I’d like to talk about this today.

또 여기 있다 저기 있다고도 못하리니 하나님의 나라는 너희 안에 있느니라(눅17:21)

21 nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is in your midst.” (Luke 17: 21)

하나님의 나라는 말에 있지 아니하고 오직 능력에 있음이라(고전4:20)

20 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power. (1 Corinthians 4: 20)

하나님의 나라는 먹는 것과 마시는 것이 아니요 오직 성령 안에 있는 의와 평강과 희락이라(롬14:17)

17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, (Romans 14: 17)

하나님의 나라를 한자어로 줄여서 말한 단어가 바로 천국입니다.

God’s kingdom (heaven) became the word “kingdom in the sky” translated in Korean. (Note: Koreans use Chinese character based words.)

성경에서 말하는 천국은 하나님이 우주의 한 곳에 건설해놓은 신도시가 아니라, 바로 우리 안에 있다고 말씀하시고 계시죠.

Heaven, according to the BIble, is within us; it’s not a physical place built somewhere in a corner of our universe.

그래서 우리 안에 하나님의 능력이 드러나서 예수 그리스도의 증인의 삶을 살아야 하며, 내면의 깊은 곳에서 하나님의 의와 평안과 기쁨이 흘러나오고 있어야 한다고 콕 집어서 말씀하고 계십니다.

We must act as witnesses of Jesus and show God’s power; we must be filled with peace and joy that never change.

그러나 우리네 주변에 이런 교인들은 거의 찾아볼 수 없죠.

But this type of people are hardly ever seen around us.

그러나 더욱 놀라운 것은, 그래도 자신의 믿음에 의구심을 표하지 않는다는 겁니다. 기가 막히는 일이죠.

More amazing thing is that no one questions their own faith.

영성학교에 사람들이 몰려든 이유입니다.

And that’s why people started to gather at CSA

제가 인터넷 곳곳에서 영성학교에서 기도훈련을 하고 나면, 하나님의 나라가 자신의 삶과 영혼에 넘치도록 임하는 인생을 누릴 수 있다고 도배하였기 때문이에요.

I claim to resolve any trouble life throws, if people choose to train here to pray.

영성학교를 찾아온 사람들은 이런 저런 이유로 영혼이 지쳐갔으며 삶이 고통스러웠습니다.

Visitors at CSA were all suffering from issues in their lives.

정신질환과 고질병으로 영혼과 육체가 병든 사람이 가장 만이 찾아왔으며, 가정이 깨지고 배우자와 부모, 그리고 자녀들과 심각한 갈등에 있는 사람들도 적지 않았고, 사업과 투자의 실패로 빚더미에 놓여있거나, 각종 불행한 사건 사고로 삶이 고단하고 팍팍한 사람들이었어요.

Most suffered from some kind of illness; many had conflicts with spouse and/or family; others were in debt from failure or business and investments.

그들은 흘리며 제게 자신의 삶을 이야기하면서 하염없이 눈물을 흘렸습니다.

They all told me what has happened to them in tears.

그런데 더욱 놀라운 것은, 그들 대부분은 교회에서 열정적인 신자들이었다는 것이었습니다.

Surprisingly, all of them were passionate churchgoers.

어떤 이들은 재산을 교회에 탈탈 털어놓고 알거지가 되어서 찾아온 이도 있었어요.

Some even came here after being dead broke because he gave everything to church.

어쨌든 그들은 그동안의 신앙이 자신의 영혼과 삶에 도움이 되지 못할 뿐 아니라, 희생적인 신앙행위를 하느라고 막장드라마의 인생을 써갔던 것이 아이러니한 일입니다.

It’s ironic that their faith didn’t help them at all; it actually had them go through all these trouble.

그래서 저는 기도훈련을 하면, 삶의 문제들이 말끔하게 해결될 것이라고 단호하게 말했습니다. 그렇게 거반 오년이 흘렀어요.

And, of course, I told them all their trouble will be gone if they train to pray properly. Almost 5 years have passed.

그동안 수많은 일들이 일어났습니다. 처음에 충주의 한적한 시골에서 영성학교를 시작할 때는 아무도 없이 시작했지만, 지금은 백육십 명이 넘는 공동체 식구들로 채워졌죠.

Many things happened over the course of 5 years; CSA started in a small town in the countryside, but now, it’s full of people, more than 160 members forming a community.

그들이 다니던 교회를 그만두고 영성학교에 몸담은 이유는, 그동안 수많은 기적과 이적으로 정신질환과 고질병이 치유되고 각종 삶의 문제들이 해결되었으며, 가정이 회복되면서 영혼에 환한 빛이 들어오기 시작했기 때문입니다.

Their health and family relationships were restored; they’ve witnessed so many miracles; they became happy and peaceful.

그래서 영성학교가 자신이 사는 집과 멀리 떨어져 있음에도 불구하고, 매주 차로 두세 시간을 타고 영성학교에 오고 있습니다.

So these people visit CSA every week, even with the 2,3 hour drive.

그러나 딱 거기까지였어요. 병이 낫고 가정이 회복되고 문제들이 사라지자, 하나님께 애걸복걸하던 가난하고 애통한 마음도 눈 녹듯 사라지기 시작했습니다.

But that was all. After they had their life back together, their desperation to call God also quickly dwindled.

말하자면 문제가 해결되고 아픈데도 사라지고 먹고 살만해지면서 마음이 느슨해진 거죠.

Basically, they became nonchalant about praying after their situation has gotten better.

네가 죽도록 충성하라 그리하면 내가 생명의 관을 네게 주리라(계2:10)

Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown. (Revelation 2: 10)

너는 마음을 다하고 뜻을 다하고 힘을 다하여 네 하나님 여호와를 사랑하라(신6:5)

5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. (Deuteronomy 6: 5)

여호와의 증거들을 지키고 전심으로 여호와를 구하는 자는 복이 있도다(시119:2)

Blessed are those who keep his statutes

and seek him with all their heart—  (Psalm 119: 2)

너희가 전심으로 나를 찾고 찾으면 나를 만나리라(렘29:13)

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29: 13)

하나님이 해결해주시는 원칙은 하나님께 전부를 다 바치는 마음입니다.

The only way for God to help you is for you to give your all to God.

그래서 성경에는 다양한 단어로 이를 표현했습니다. ‘죽도록, 마음을 다하고 뜻을 다하고 힘을 다해서, 전심으로’라는 표현이 그것이지요.

And the Bible describes in different ways: “With all your heart with all your soul and with all your strength.”

그래서 여러분은 하나님의 명령에 부합하는 믿음을 견지하고 있습니까? 그렇다고요?

So… do you do that? You do, really?

그게 주일성수에 십일조, 새벽기도회의 참석과 각종 교회봉사인가요? 아쉽게도 그런 말은 성경에 없습니다.

Are you talking about your awesome participation in church? The Bible never mentions such things.

목회자의 탐욕과 교회의 관행으로 자리 잡은 것에 불과합니다. 물론 분별은 오로지 여러분의 몫이죠.

Those quench the thirst of the pastors. It is up to you to detect and distinguish.

저는 성경에서 말한 내용만을 옮겨드린 뿐입니다. 저는 교회의 관행으로 가르치는 것을 거부하고, 오직 성경에 있는 내용을 가감 없이 삶에 적용하도록 훈련할 뿐이지요.

I just talk about what the Bible says; I refuse to follow the church formality; I train people based on what the Bible says.

그래서 그동안 영성학교에 수많은 기적과 이적이 일어나게 된 배경입니다.

And that is how so many miracles took place here at CSA.

그러나 영성학교 식구들도 이제 급하게 화장실을 찾던 시절이 끝나고, 이제는 화장실을 나와서 마음이 느긋해지고 푸근해졌습니다.

But now, CSA is at a halt, or slowing coming to a halt, for we’ve our problems solved somewhat.

그래서 마음도 느슨해지고 기도도 형식적으로 돌아가고 있으며, 죄와 싸우고 자기를 부인하는 것도 예전만 못하죠.

The prayer is turning into a formality; people don’t fight against sins as much.

그래서 하나님의 도우심은 그들의 삶에서 멈춰있습니다. 기적과 이적이 더 이상 일어나지 않는다는 의미입니다.

So God stopped helping them, which means no more miracles.

그러나 더욱 기가 막힌 것은, 자신의 실체를 더 이상 보지 않으려 한다는 것이죠. 그래서 앞날을 예측하는 것이 어렵지 않습니다.

The problem is that these people don’t check on their faith; it won’t be too hard to predict their future if this persists.

예전의 눈물의 빵을 곱씹던 고통스러운 삶으로 돌아가게 될 겁니다.

They’d go back to their miserable state, to the state when they first came to CSA.
