In what consist the true spiritual battle?

The Bible tells us we are immersed in a spiritual battle with our enemy.
1 Peter 5:8 tells us "Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour." And it also tells us to resist the Devil? but what does it mean?
It doesn't mean we go around shouting things to the Devil. I have heard pastors who speak to demons. They say things like "we bind you" "we forbid you".
Jesus and the apostles had power over demons, but that ended there. That's why in the book of acts we read that demons said: "Jesus, we know and Paul we know, but who are you."
We resist the devil by resisting his field of temptation, by resisting his influence in this world. We resist the devil by being strong in the Lord and strong in his word. Try not to sin always, that's the way we resist him.
