Random Musings On Religion, Concepts Of God, And Potential Correlations With Modern Theories In The Realm Of Physics.

in #christianity7 years ago (edited)

In this write up I'm going to play around and voice some of my idle speculations on the esoteric, concepts of God, and the universe. A dissertation length paper could be written on some of these topics but for now I'll try to keep it short and sweet as well as light hearted. At a later date I will touch more on this subject and probably write more in depth articles on it. But for now I'll just run over the topics at speed and share my random musings. We happen to live in an incredibly exciting time in regards to humans making technological advances and increasing our understanding of the universe around us. However, a commonly held position is that science can not exist along side religion in any way, shape or form. That is of course unless the science directly supports the religious based point of view or can be molded around it to directly support the religious perspective being voiced. What I hope to play with in this write up are just things I often wonder about when I think about the vastness of our universe and our never ending efforts as a species to define it. I often stagger across parallels in religious texts that could easily be applied to things we are discovering today in science. Sometimes these obvious references in religion whether it's Christianity or Buddhism, have points that leading physicist agree with. So I'm going to chuck these parallels out there and see what you guys think.

MULTIPLE DIMENSIONS:

Now Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Judeasim have a great commonality. They both believe in multiple dimensions albeit the eastern faiths state that there are many while in the west it's heaven, hell, and here. Though in the Talmudic practice their is the belief in Sheol and the same thing is mentioned in the book of Numbers. (NUMBERS 30-33). Basically purgatory. It could also be argued that the Garden Of Eden was a parallel universe which man was chucked out of if you were so inclined to see it that way. But here's a handful of scriptures and references to ponder over.

Christianity: Samuel. Book 1 Chapter 28 This is where the witch of Endor raises the spirit of the prophet Samuel from the dead. Now interestingly, if the belief of judgement and either heaven or hell being where you go, then this passage raises a pretty interesting point of view as to what occurs with the soul after death as I'm relatively sure heaven and hell aren't meant to grant day passes.

Buddhism: In Buddhism we have the Theravada Buddhist Cosmology. A quote from Buddhism in which the Buddha describes the many planes of existence goes as follows: “As a net is made up of a series of ties, so everything in this world is connected by a series of ties. If anyone thinks that the mesh of a net is an independent, isolated thing, he is mistaken. It is called a net because it is made up of a series of interconnected meshes, and each mesh has its place and responsibility in relation to the other meshes.” In the realms of physics right now there are many who believe in infinite numbers of universes. Because the observable universe extends only as far as light has had a chance to get in the 13.7 billion years since the Big Bang (that would be 13.7 billion light-years), the space-time beyond that distance can be considered to be its own separate universe. In this way, a multitude of universes exists next to each other in a giant patchwork quilt of universes. There is a cool similarity here to the Buddhas teachings.

Hinduism: Now to cover the many references in Hinduism and there relations to the different multiple dimensional theories in physics would be book length as there is that many. Multiple dimensions being speculated upon is a belief that has been taught for thousands of years in Hinduism though. A short but rather beautiful quote: Lord Śiva said: "My dear son, I, Lord Brahmā and the other devas, who move within this universe under the misconception of our greatness, cannot exhibit any power to compete with the Supreme Personality of Godhead, for innumerable universes and their inhabitants come into existence and are annihilated by the simple direction of the Lord" (Srimad Bhagavatam 9.4.56)

One the more fascinating concepts that Christianity and Buddhism share are the teachings that Christ gave on desire and of course Buddhas teachings on mindfulness being exercised in mastery of desire to achieve liberation from suffering. The paths taught by both of these men hold some remarkable similarities that are wonderful things to draw parallels between when you're in the mood for esoteric contemplation. But the possible commonality that you find with Christ and the theory of the Daughter Universes is pretty cool to ponder on as well. Christ taught that a sin committed in a mans heart was the same as the sin enacted in deed. For some that seems pretty harsh but when you look at desire and choice from the potential that the theory of the Daughter Universe proposes it gets pretty interesting.

Daughter Universes Theory:
The theory of quantum mechanics, which reigns over the tiny world of subatomic particles, suggests another way multiple universes might arise. Quantum mechanics describes the world in terms of probabilities, rather than definite outcomes. And the mathematics of this theory might suggest that all possible outcomes of a situation do occur — in their own separate universes. For example, if you reach a crossroads where you can go right or left, the present universe gives rise to two daughter universes: one in which you go right, and one in which you go left.

"And in each universe, there's a copy of you witnessing one or the other outcome, thinking — incorrectly — that your reality is the only reality," Greene wrote in "The Hidden Reality."

In regards to intent and choice this opens the possibility in the vastness of infinity that simply by desiring a course of action you create a split universe in which you actually enacted the course of action and a separate version of you is then carrying on down a different line of choices, causes and effects. You didn't commit the sin but at the same time you did. Now the idea of one individual observing a desire or want which then potentially creates another universe starting from the split second a different choice is made seems absurd at first. But before I carry on, we are only talking speculation of infinity here, so the unquantifiable naturally may touch the absurd response in the mind the same way the sun being at the center of the solar system did for medieval man. However, our observations of everything have a profound impact on.....well, everything. Even our inadvertent observations. For evidence behind this statement I'm going to point to the double slit experiment. Which is a bit of good old physics based high strangeness.

Basically we discovered that quanta had a wave particle duality. Meaning that a particle could choose to act like a particle or wave of potentials. The act of observation however made the duality decide to behave like a particle and influenced the outcome. In short quanta conformed to the observers act of observation. If as subtle an act as simply observing could impact matter to that degree then what are the potentials for suppressed intense manifestations of desire? What impacts do they potentially have on the unseen world around us? If observation carries such a profound impact at a particle level what could be the potential weight and influence of intent? And can the esoteric teachings of religious figures in the past potentially tie into us understanding at a level of moral/spiritual inclination before we fully understand the specifics?

Term length papers could be written on these speculations and given the topic I have kept it short. As I said, these are just tings I wonder about frequently. I'll leave you guys with one of my favorite verses from the Gnostic Gospels. The Book of Thomas: "Split a piece of wood and I am there. Lift a stone and you will find me."

I appreciate you guys reading and feel free to comment. Best of luck to all you wonderful folks with all your postings and projects. Steem on!
