The Fulfillment of the Law
Source
Matthew 5:17-20
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one letter, not one stroke of a letter, will pass from the law until all is accomplished.
Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven."
My Reflection
Our Savior was simply entering on his work. It was critical for him to state what he came to do. By his setting up to be an educator contrary to the scribes and Pharisees, some may accuse him of a goal to pulverize their law, and to abrogate the traditions of the country. He consequently disclosed to them that he didn't seek that end, yet truly to satisfy or achieve what was in the law and the prophets.
Christ did not come to bring any better approach for uprightness and salvation into the world, yet in fact to satisfy what was shadowed by the figures of the Law, by conveying men through beauty from the scourge of the Law. And also to educate the genuine utilization of submission which the Law designated, and to imprint in our souls the power for compliance.
