Run for the Real Life
The life of a Christian is a marathon not a race. Just like the one partaking in a marathon needs endurance to make it to the finishing line in other to win a prize, a Christian needs endurance to run the race "God has set before us". Endurance is a quality that allows the individual to persists or stay on a certain course of action until the purpose set out is achieved.
The apostle Paul is here encouraging the Hebrew Christians to endure persecution and other distractions which could hinder them from pressing on to the finishing line and miss out on the reward from God. Christians today needs endurance more than anything else to remain focus on the race for everlasting life. Why is this quality so important? Jesus provides the answer in Matthew 7:14 with this word picture "narrow is the gate and cramp is the road leading of into life, and few are the ones finding it". Therefore, to remain firmly on the road that leads to life, the importance of this quality of endurance cannot be over emphasized.
