The Need for a New Heart
Text: Rom. 8:5-8
#Introduction
In the beginning, God created man in His own image and breathe the breath of life into him. By implication, man has God in him, so fellowship with God was possible because God lives in man. But man was depraved as a result of sin and the God in man was corrupted so much that God regretted creating man.
Rom. 3:23; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Man's heart became desperately wicked and hard to decode. So he was separated from God. In his state of depravity, it became absolutely impossible to please or fellowship with God. Then God said; / will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
&Lessons.
- The old/depraved heart cannot please God, hence the need for regeneration. (Rom. 8:5-6)
- Man must fulfill God's purpose, and this can't be achieved with a reprobate mind. (Rom. 12:2)
- To have this promise, our heart must concord with His. (Jer. 24:7)
#Prayer
Create in me a clean heart, 0 God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. (Ps. 51:10).
