36"Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, "Sit here while I go over there and pray."37 He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38Then he said to them, "My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me."39Going a little further, he felt with his face to the ground and prayed, "My father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will." (Matthews 26:36-39).

It was a night just before Jesus was arrested when He and his disciples went to a place called Gethsemane to pray. Jesus knew in advance He was going to be arrested very soon and would be killed on the cross in the place of sinners as prepared by God the Father with the purpose that sinful human beings might escape from the wrath of God and access to the fellowship with Him. As Jesus is both 100% human and 100%God, He was agonized so greatly in his human nature and prayed to God the Father to take away from Him the cup of God's wrath against human sin if God could find another way to accomplish the purpose He has for human beings.

Despite His agony so great in soul Jesus ended up His prayer submitting himself obediently to the will of God saying "Yet not as I will, but as you will." All the follower of Jesus should learn to be able to submit ourselves to the will of God as Jesus did.

The reason for being agonized so greatly was that He would bear the sin of the world and experience the punishment of that sin, and be forsaken by God the Father.

Jesus came down on this earth forsaking the heavenly glory to take the sin of the world and experience the punishment of that sin on the cross taking the human body form so that all the sinful human beings might escape from the wrath of God and have a peaceful fellowship with God.

Jesus chose to be forsaken so that all the sinful human beings might be accepted by God.

All these are prompted by His abundantly everlasting love and grace! Amen!
