1 How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers! 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. (Psalm 1:1-2, NASB)

This evening I was talking a stroll through the book of Psalm to know how God inspired David to write concerning this important topic. In fact the Lord blessed my search by placing this verse at the very beginning of this book in the bible.

Here in this book we see the Psalmist writing by the inspiration of God to give an incredible contract between the sinner and the righteous.
It starts with '1 How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!' David, having a foretaste of the blessings of God knew what it meant to be blessed. This blessing he was talking about cannot be understood in the modern religious definition of blessing. No. The modified definition will not fit in what he said in this verse.

The blessed man is the man who;

1. Does not walk in the counsel of the wicked

This is a truth placard throughout the bible. The bible describes the blessed man as a person who is free from the bondage of sin. Someone who has been translated from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light and someone who no longer live under the menace of sin. Sin does not have dominion over the blessed man. The blessed man described here in this verse is not a man whose bank account balances. No. That will be a misinterpretation of the test in context. Taking this chapter in a whole, it will be seen that it talks about the spiritual life and not physical. It's concerned with the inner man, the soul. The state of man before God-Whether one has a right standing before God or not. And the person with a right standing before God is the one has the ability to resist the temptation of this world by the Power of the Spirit. He does not walk in the counsel of the wicked but rather
In the counsel of God.

2. Does not stand in the path of sinners

His ways are not with those who practice sin. He has separated himself from the world. The Lord has instructed him not to 'love the world nor the things in the world.' for 'If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. (1 John 2:15-16, NASB)'. And because of this he does not engage himself in the pleasures of the flesh. He's a blessed man because God has enabled him to do this. God has blessed him with the Holy Spirit to overcome the allurements of this sin-crammed world. Are you blessed? Then check your life to see if you either stand in the way of sinners or not.

Finally, let's talk about what the blessed man does. the blessed man as I have said before, is not necessarily the man with a private jet or a billionaire. No. That's a far cry from biblical truth. The blessed man is the man whose '2 delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.' is that shocking? Some people are going to read the Bible one day and be surprised. They're going to know that they are deceived. How I pray God will open the eyes of people to see the priceless riches He gives to His people. We've been told that the blessings of God are cars, houses, billion dollar account, etc. But that's sadly not true. The blessings of God are not that cheap. They are priceless. It's a spiritual gift. If the blessings of God are merely material things, then sinners are more blessed than Christians. Because most of the billionaires are not believers. But they are rich. And again if the blessings of God are based on material things, then I can say that God hated Paul. For he had nothing. Do you delight in the law of the Lord? Or you're an antinomian. Do you love the word of God? If not then you're not blessed. For the blessed man is described as a man whose 'delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night'. He studies the word, meditates on it and practices it. It's the counsel of his life. Not wicked people. He does not seek sinners for advice. He seeks God by applying His word.
Are you blessed? If you're not, ask the Lord to wash you with His blood and grace you with these unsearchable blessings.
