Do you Follow God or Your Denomination?

in #christianity7 years ago

The Bible is from God, denominations are from man. Since the scriptures are from God there is no error in them but since denominations are from man they are almost guaranteed to have problems.

Ask yourself this question. Is there anything about my denomination that I disagree with? If your answer is no then please seriously consider that you may need to step back from your denomination and spend time following God alone. We can all get caught up in an echo chamber or from years and years of indoctrination from spending too much time in church and not enough time with God in the word. Challenge your denominational beliefs and make sure they are sound or you risk following man instead of God. I am currently Southern Baptist but follow some things from the Lutheran denomination and am starting to believe though the scriptures that the Pentecostals have some things correct that the other denominations do not. If you do not allow yourself the same leverage then you risk missing the truth. Worse, if your denomination forbids this than please get out of your denomination as you risk following a cult and totally missing the truth.

you are perfectly right...we ought to follow God only since there is no perfect denomination. It is good to be a member of a denomination but we should not limit our understanding of God's revelation by our denomination's doctrines.

Thanks for commenting. I can't tell you how many times I've been reading the Bible and realized I was wrong. Not only about my theology but also my actions. If we don't let it change us then we're like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. James 1:23-24
