THE TRUTH ABOUT LUCIFER

The term translated as "Lucifer" means "Shining", "Brilliant", "Bearer of light". The scriptures say that Lucifer was called Luzbel, he was created as an angel of light and beauty.

Michael and his angels fought against the Dragon. The Dragon and his angels fought, but they could not prevail and there was no place for them in heaven. Entrance of sin in the universe:
When Satan rebelled, sin entered the universe. As a result, there were two actions that God could have taken:

1. He could have defeated and eliminated Satan. But if God had eliminated the first enemy in this way, there could have always been the possibility of another rebellion. The history of heaven could have always been muddied with these disasters.
2. The other action open to God was that which the Bible indicates followed. Satan's aspirations to supreme power would have his full judgment on earth in the period of eternity that we call time.
   When God created the first man and the first woman, the judgment on earth began. You can read the story of the temptation of Adam and Eve by Satan and his fall into sin in Genesis chapter 3. You will study more about it when you analyze Satan's strategies later in this course.
   The battle is still in progress on earth. This is what the Spiritual War is about. Satan is still looking for power, position, worship. But as you will learn later in this course, he is already a defeated enemy. Jesus overcame the power of Satan through His death and resurrection. Where is Satan now?
Satan, in the form of spirit, is present in the world:
"Jehovah said to Satan: -Where do you come from? Satan answered the Lord and said, "To go around the earth and walk in it" (Job 1: 7).
"Be sober and watch, because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour" (1 Peter 5: 8).
Although Satan is present in the world, he is not omnipresent, which means that he can not be in all parts of the world at the same time as God can. This is why he employs a host of demons to fulfill his plans.

Attributes of Satan
As you have already learned, Satan is a spirit, but he also has attributes of a real personality. The Bible teaches that he is:
Intelligent and penetrating:
"But I fear that, just as the serpent deceived Eve with his cunning, your senses are also somehow misled by sincere fidelity to Christ" (2 Corinthians 11: 3).
Emotional:
"Then the dragon was filled with anger against the woman ..." (Revelation 12:17).
With own will:
"And escape from the snare of the devil, in that they are captive at his will" (2 Timothy 2:26).
Powerful:
"... prince of the power of the air ..." (Ephesians 2: 2).
Misleading:
"Put on the whole armor of God, that you may stand firm against the snares of the devil" (Ephesians 6:11).
Rude and cruel:
"Be sober and watch, because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour" (1 Peter 5: 8).
Liar:
"And this is not surprising, because Satan himself disguises himself as an angel of light" (2 Corinthians 11:14).

Satan
Contrary to popular opinion, Satan does not go around the world with a red suit and a trident in his hand. He is a real and active person and he likes to take the form of an extremely attractive young man, blond and all dressed in white. Belzebub, Belial, the adversary, the dragon, the serpent, the prince of this world, the prince of the power of the air, the accuser of the brothers, the tempter, the stalker, the destroyer, the wolf, the thief, the father of the lie, the murderer, sower of discord, Satan and devil all these are some of the names that identify Lucifer, the fallen angel. These words describe your character. We should not make fun of Satan but we should not worship him either. He has all the power of an angel but without love and kindness.
Satan is the master deceiver. He is called the father of lies and the dragon. He has existed since before the foundation of the earth. Unlike God, he can not see all things at the same time, nor can he be everywhere at the same time. Although powerful, God is much more powerful. Satan has thousands of servants who do the work for him. He prowls around the earth looking for someone to destroy.
The Apostle Peter warned us: "Be sober and watch: for your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour" (1 Peter 5: 8).
John 10:10 says that: "The thief comes except to steal and kill and destroy ..." Satan hates everyone and mostly Christians. Hating is part of their nature.
By dying on the cross Jesus Christ overcame hell and death; He defeated Satan once and for all. This means that when we die, we can hope for an eternal life in Heaven. Because of the consequence of sin, we were all destined for hell. The death of Jesus enables all who believe in Him to have eternal life. His blood redeems us from all sin. Satan thought he had won when Jesus was crucified, but Jesus was victorious over death. Jesus must die as the perfect sacrifice for our sins (John 3:16). It is only a matter of time until Satan is cast into the lake of eternal fire. Someday Satan and all unbelievers will have to bow down before God and worship Him.
