A pure Heart
What does it mean to be pure-hearted?
When something is pure, it is free of all mixture. For example, when something is described as pure gold, it means that it is nothing but gold; It is only a single ingredient and nothing added. So, what does it mean to be pure in heart? The following two footnotes of the Recovery Version help us understand:
"A pure heart is a simple heart without mixture, a heart that only seeks the Lord and takes the Lord as the only goal." (Note 3 of 1 Timothy 1: 5)
"To have a pure heart is to have a single purpose, to have the singular goal of carrying out God's will for His glory (1 Cor. 10:31)." (Note 1 of Matthew 5: 8)
When we have a pure heart we only seek the Lord, we take it as our only goal and we have the singular goal of carrying out God's will for His glory as our only purpose.
