Psalm 23:4; Oct. 26, 2017

So, where is the valley of the shadow of death? Is it a place of suffering which we encounter from time to time in life? Is it a place of mourning when we have lost a dear one? Is it a place of temptation to sin, not unlike what Jesus Christ faced?

I contend that the valley of the shadow of death is our everyday experience. When you rise up from your bed tomorrow and set off on your day, you will be walking in that vale. All around us is death, people who are dead in trespasses and sins. A world system set against the gospel and which glorifies death. Inside us is death working to bring us to the grave and working to corrupt our hearts.

Yet, for the believer, the Shepherding Lord keeps us in the very midst of that experience. So much so that the Christian can say, "The Lord is my shepherd," and "I will fear no evil, for you are with me."
