As an Eli, not sure I condone a God who puts the sins of the son on the fathers head. Had he not done right by Samuel? And yet he puts a curse on his house which no sacrifice or offering could erase, because he didn't discipline his children enough. While this may be the result in a world not dictated by a God, you would think a compassionate God would not punish, having the ability to judge each person by their merit rather than riding the mores society would dictate.
