Consider an insincere crook, pleading for mercy before the sentencing of an earthly judge, only to jump back into the same crimes the moment he escapes; his false repentance is only a selfish regret for being caught, not genuine remorse.
Likewise those who reject God and choose rebellion, do so under the delusion that they will never be judged by the God of Israel, like a criminal who insists he will never be caught.
They do not want to believe in God, because they love sin more than God.
2 Peter 3:5 KJV
For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
But on judgment day, they will beg for a pardon, not because they are sorry for their rebellion against God, but because they fear the fire.
This is why you must repent before you die, accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and be born again, because repentance after being arrested by the angels of God, is insincere vanity.
