Venezuela Challege: PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES DON’T HAVE PROTECTION
Hello Steemians! Today I will continue writing about the different challenges that we have in Venezuela every day. This time a topic that is not very popular but with this article I intend to contribute a grain of sand to evolve as a society. I'm talking about people with disabilities and their rights.
Disabled people suffer various forms of discrimination. It begins, in many cases, the concealment of their status and attitudes of pity and underestimation by family, friends and community. They are denied the exercise of their right to free transit, social integration and employment, community and education. However, they have the same rights as the general population. The persons with disabilities are a subject of rights and responsibilities, free to participate actively, make their own decisions and become key actors in society. While in Venezuela there is a legal system that mandates the state for creating conditions and opportunities that will enable the active participation of people with disabilities in all social aspects still continue to show various forms of discrimination.
Every day I live this closely, because I have an aunt in this condition, in her case motor disability from birth; and it is really amazing how there are people without a degree of conscience or humanity, only full of ignorance of the knowledge of the rights of these people, discriminating against them and lowering their self-esteem. Fortunately my aunt is a strong, courageous woman, especially a daughter of God who throughout her life has managed to face it with a lot of patience despite all the obstacles that daily arise to do any activity that is so routine for us . I thank God personally for every time I go out with her, because she blesses my life and teaches me with every attitude and reaction towards others. Well I see with great impotence how there are sectors, including public institutions where they violate the rights of her and many other people with this diversity. In Venezuela there is a law for Persons with Disabilities, which must guarantee the integral development of this population with the support of all sectors of society: the family, national, state and municipal public bodies and private entities. Having a person in your family with these conditions is much more complex still live, the state should give special treatment to these people prevention and integration, mandatory, public and free, but those things that are in papers many times they are not fulfilled, the benefits that are for them are diverted by those in charge of these programs, they are denounced and nobody responds or tries to solve this.
My intention with this post is to call your attention that surely every day you can have some kind of relationship with these people. If the collective does not act, in the individual it reflects and contributes. Dare to put yourself in his place! Every time you see a person with a disability Ask him to explain what you can do to help him. Be careful when helping you lower sidewalks or sidewalks. Be nice, smile. Have a lot of patience.
God bless your life, Ale 'Navarro
