DJI_0059.jpgA Little Fire

Once playing with a fellow in the woods long years ago
We came upon an idea that no one would ever know
We'd find a pack of matches and experiment with twigs
And being very careful keep the fire small not big

So searching in the pantry where we knew we should not go
We found what we were needing for which we had been told no
And scurried back to trouble like a moth drawn to the flame
With just a little pleasure with the fire as our aim

And building little piles of straw with broken twigs and leaves
We'd strike a match and light the pile and watch the fire weave
Its magic as its little light consumed the piles we made
Until our boldness overcame our need to be afraid

And foolishly we built a pile that rapped around a tree
Once lit in numerous places thought that we were going to see
A fancy ring of fire like the others to die down
And be a pile of ashes like the others on the ground

But this time flames did wander on their own right up the tree
Engulfing what was soon to be one great catastrophe
If warning was not given all our homes would be destroyed
By these two wayward children who so dangerously had toyed

Against their parent's wisdom with this deadly little sin
The way we often wander when we choose the ways of men
The ways our Father warned us would ensure our sure demise
Enticing us to greater sin with each succeeding try

But unlike little children when we're older things we do
Can have a greater impact than just scaring me and you
As lives hang in the balance with each choice we choose to make
As often their salvation by what we do is at stake

So friend unlike those children who by grace were spared their lives
By quick responding neighbors one lone woodsman and house wives
Don't choose to play with fires of temptation that you meet
But quickly turn to Jesus kneeling humbly at His feet

And seek His grace and wisdom to resist the flame of sin
The flame of dark temptation that consumes the hearts of men
To be a light of heaven full abandoned to God's will
Obeying Him Who gives us life to be His people still

James 3

This is a very beautiful poem. It makes one think how quickly we can be consumed by the fires of temptation. Really like the analogy.

Thank you. Praise the Lord.
