When hope is lost
I have no hope.
Nothing can change my circumstances.
I have failed too many times.
It is too late.
I am unable to get up from where I am.
It is impossible.
There is nowhere left to turn.
I give up!
It is a terrible thing when hope is lost and you are at the place where you want to give up. Have you ever been there? You will value hope more when you know hopelessness. Just like you will appreciate light more after struggling in darkness for a while. Hope is truly symbolised by a sunrise better than anything else can do it. Everything looks better, clearer and possible in the light of hope.
It is very difficult in the midst of darkness to imagine light. And even more difficult to imagine what you will see when light chases away darkness. In the same way, it is extremely difficult to find hope in the midst of despair.
In Psalm 3:3 God is described as the lifter of your head.
But you, O LORD, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.
Psa 3:3 ESV
I often see the effect of despair on a person. The one thing that happens is that such a person will look down. As you lower your head you can only see directly in front of you.
When David calls God the lifter of his head, I see a picture of God placing His hand under David's chin and lifting his head. This lifts his eyes and he can look forward again. Another translation gives the same verse in these words:
But you, O LORD, are always my shield from danger; you give me victory and restore my courage.
Psa 3:3 GNB
And another says this:
But you, LORD, protect me. You bring me honor; you give me hope.
Psa 3:3 ERV
The Hebrew language is a complex one and translation a rich science. I hope you can see this clearly.
'Lifter of my head' can also be translated
'restore my courage'
or _
'you give me hope'_
Sometimes hope needs to come from outside of you. I pray that God will be the lifter of your head, restoring your courage and giving you hope!

Thank you for this nice words. Now I find myself in period when live is turning upside down and I have to think about many questions and find answers to them. And you are right. I can't look at ground and collect pieces of broken glass but raise my chin and look forward. Big thanks for your motivating post.
