311: Whether They Listen Or Not
Today, I was moved to look for a certain bit of scripture. I had no memory of the verse and only a vague notion of where to look. Today, Isaiah 3:11 and Ezekiel 3:11 came to my attention. I'll offer a bit of context, as well, because we must always keep an eye on context when studying God's Word. That is the way of kings and queens, to be guided by The Spirit with consideration of context.
Isaiah 3:10-12
"Say to the righteous that it will go well with them, For they will eat the fruit of their actions. Woe to the wicked! It will go badly with him, For what he deserves will be done to him. O My people! Their oppressors are children, And women rule over them. O My people! Those who guide you lead you astray And confuse the direction of your paths."
Ezekiel 3:10-12
"Moreover, He said to me, "Son of man, take into your heart all My words which I will speak to you and listen closely. "Go to the exiles, to the sons of your people, and speak to them and tell them, whether they listen or not, 'Thus says the Lord GOD.'" Then the Spirit lifted me up, and I heard a great rumbling sound behind me, "Blessed be the glory of the LORD in His place."
Both passages regarding divine instructions for these two very prominent and guided prophets are loaded with aspects worth noting. For me personally, I notice that the both of them flow together nicely, perhaps coincidentally or not, with a particular focus on the tenth and eleventh verses together.
God tells Isaiah to not only assess and speak to the goodness of others, but to tell them where their path would lead! This is not the same as passing judgment upon their soul in the eschatological sense, but is very similar.
I'm especially struck by the words "Whether they listen or not." Every fellow clergy member with me knows this feeling. As representatives and messengers of the returned Christ, it is without doubt that we have all faced a spirit of antichrist working against us in the Lord's way. It does hurt, it is infuriating to watch because we really do care about humanity's fate. We must not wear the weight of worldly rejection of God's truth. It should never be a hindrance to our duty of sharing the truth. Whether it goes as we would hope or not, we have a job to do. Even those outside of clergy can apply this, as we are all representatives of our Lord, and we all stand to see the rewards or consequences of our actions.
It cannot be avoided. Let it be something to look forward to!

The Messiah knew they would not all listen and how few are of pure heart that would enter into his Kingdom, but how he gave them centuries to get it right .. shows his mercy and Love beyond measure !
