DO YOU WANT TO BE A REBEL LIKE JESUS?
“…REBEL LIKE JESUS?” You are probably wondering why, because in the worldly context, rebel defines negativity, trouble-maker, gangster, unrighteousness, law-breaker—in other words, is Jesus like that? To make things clearer, brethren, there are two concepts of a rebel, either in a negative or in a positive manner. Surely it is!
When Jesus came on earth, He did not judge every sinners. But instead, He came to save the sinners. But prior to that, we were kept under the law, Galatians 3:23 “Before the coming of this faith we were held in custody under the law, locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed.” In all means, we were in chain before this faith came, and broke the chain. Jesus freed us from the law that the only thing we must do is to believe, repent and be baptized in the Holy presence of the Lord. Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” And that is the new creation, held in the grace of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
Christian—to be a Christian, is to be like Christ. Since Jesus came, He was the law-breaker, He was different from everybody, so you must act like one. How to be different? If you know that is unrighteous, stay away from it. Resist the devil. Resist any temptations. Do you still remember when Satan attempted to lure Jesus? From the book of Matthew, Jesus was led into wilderness by the Spirit at that time, was physically starving, exhausted and weak—he needed something to eat. There came Satan tempted Him and challenged to turn stones into bread, but Jesus replied, Matthew 4:4 “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” And when Satan took Him up into the holy city, there on the peak of the temple, he said, Matthew 4:6 “If you are the Son of God, throw Yourself down for it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you, and in their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.’” Verse 7 Jesus said, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’” And again, the devil took Him up on a mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the earth, saying verse 9 “All these things I will give to You if You will fall down and worship me.” Verse 10, in reply of Jesus, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.” If Jesus did it, then we can also do it, we must do it.
Today, in this era, whatever is on trend, people follow. Fancy clothing, taboo expressions, rules; whether group rules of your friends or gang etcetera—people follow, because it makes them feel good, it makes them cooler as other people see them. In other words, following the world gives us pleasure and satisfaction unto ourselves. We think that if we submit ourselves to what the norm tells us, we find something that pleases them, and it pleases ourselves at the same time. But the truth is, you were not born to please everybody, you were born to please God. So, exactly, everything in it is a sin.
But here is the good news, brothers and sister, you can be saved by Jesus Christ by the grace of God that was given upon Him, and what is yours to do, is to must accept, believe and when you do, when you accept and believe in Him as your personal savior, the manifestation of the Holy Spirit will envelope all around you. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have an eternal life.”
So be different! If you want to be like Jesus, because it is what every Christians aim to be, then go—be a rebel of this world. Make a difference, because we are not of this world, we are of Jesus, we are of God. If not, if we love the world, then love for the Father is not in us. 1 John 2:5 “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.”
So as a concerned servant of Christ, let us always ask for His presence and be renewed by the Holy Spirit. I am hoping that this article helps. I know that following Christ’s doctrine or be like Christ Himself is very difficult, because He is just so perfect we cannot even be like Him. But let us put in mind all the time that our sins may be too great, yet Jesus is greater than our sins. And as this verse goes, 2 Corinthians 12 “But he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
