Look at us

Scripture Reading: Acts:3:1-10
Key verse:And fixing his eyes on him, with John, peter said,”look at us”(Acts3:4)
Meditation: We live in a crippled world. Daily the crippled world cries out assurely as the lame man on the step of the Temple Beautiful. We are crippled not in body, but also in spirit. We come to the Temple steps unable to love, unable to forgive, unable torelate deeply, unable toface our insecuritiies, unable to live out our our deepestconvictions in life, unable tobring peace to our strife-filled, war-saturated world. The sickness of our world is only an outer reflection of our inner condition. It ‘s the big picture of what is inside us all. The risidue of the sickness of the ages is in all of us. We all need healing and release far more than the beggar on the steps needed to walk.
What can we say to a weak and troubled world? Can we say’ “look at us”? “Look at quality of new life in our faith we havr discovered?” Can we say that we have the answer? Peter and John unashamedly asked the lame beggar to look at them. They did have an answer.
The man fixed his gaze on them, expecting to receive something from them. This is the story of a man wanting something when what he needed was someone. He was the eloquent spokesman of materialismfor all ages. He expected something. The disciples had nothing to offer, but they had someone. Yes, they had someone who had changed their lives and had given them purpose and power, healing and holiness, wisdom and will. They had no answer, they had the answer. H.wheeler Robinson expressed it when he said, “ The discovery of God is not, then, the discovery of something in corner of our experience. It is the discovery of Someone whose presence gathers the whole of our experience into the comprehensiveness of His being, and gives it a new unity.”

Thought for the day: The world yearns for something; we offer Someone-Christ Himself.
