Instead, be concerned above everything else with the Kingdom of God and with what it requires of you, and he will provide you with all these other things. Matthew 6:33 (Good news bible)

In the verse above Jesus admonished the crowd when he was preaching on the mount to take the kingdom of God and all it requires to get there very seriously and if we as Christians today believe and do this, all our needs shall be supplied to us. In the previous few verses, Jesus talked about God and possessions and He established that man cannot serve both, one has to be ignored for the other.

After establishing that fact he showed us how we should not serve money. He admonished us to not worry about what we are going to eat and wear; he was basically telling us not to get our minds preoccupied with worry for the earthly things as the pagans do.

As Christians we must never forget that we are new creatures and that we have to live consciously and deliberately for God. In our sojourn in this wicked world, we must never forget that:

  • Heaven is our home
We must never lose sight of our heavenly home and must live our everyday lives ready for when we would be called home. Just as the verse quoted earlier, the Kingdom of God should be what we seek first in our daily lives and actions, we must forgo everything that might hinder us from getting home.

  • Sin is a reproach
We must never forget that we must never toy with sin. Jesus came into the world to save us from our sin and we must take living victoriously above sin very seriously. As Christians, we are not allowed to embrace a lifestyle of sin, rather, we are to embrace holiness. We must also not forget that we are human beings and are not perfect so we slip up into sin once in a while. When this happens, it is therefore very important to confess our sins immediately, ask for forgiveness, repent genuinely and ask desperately for God's help to overcome and live above sin.

In thinking daily about these things, living by them and seeking for God's help in our daily quiet time, we would live a victorious Christian life.

That is very true. As Christians, we are not of this world. Heaven is our home and we are to focus on things above.

I post a verse every day as well as a part of my Verse Of The Day campaign and would love to have your feedback on the posts.
