Thursday 15/03/2018 - GENTLENESS
Memory Verse **
Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. (Philippians4:5)
Message
It is only as we walk with the Lord before us that we will be able to carry out this exhortation to be characterized by gentleness. Too often we are known for our self-assertivensss, our strong opinions, and perhaps our forceful expressions in relation to the affairs of this world. If our minds are set on the things above, we will not be so eager to assert ourselves regarding things on earth. Instead, we would desire to wear this beautiful character of Christ who was marked by gentleness and meekness (2Cor.10:1). It's more important to exhibit the character of Christ than to assert our opinions or defend ourselves, even if we're right. "A servant of the Lord must not quarrell but be gentle at all times" (2Tim.2:24)
To encourage us to gentleness, the apostle reminds us that the Lord is at hand. There is no need for us to assert ourselves and seek to put the world right, for the coming of the Lord is near, and at His coming He will right every wrong. We may also say that the Lord is near to us, and hears and sees all that we say and do. How many a harsh word have we uttered that would never have been said had we realized His presence with us.
