Rise Above – Proverbs 19:11
A man’s wisdom gives him patience; it is to his glory to overlook an offense.
I can’t tell you how many times I heard growing up “tribulation worketh patience”. And then the running jokes from all preachers was “Don’t pray for patience, you’ll only get tribulation.” But we see here that its wisdom that gives us patience. “Understanding” is a better translation actually.
Hard times can build perseverance. Now, while there can be a similarity in perseverance and patience, there is a difference. Perseverance is the ability to hold up under trial. Where Patience is the ability to calmly wait for something. The ability to control ones anticipation. Yet, we see that understanding is what gives us patience.
The bigger point to look at here in this verse is that of overlooking an insult. If someone insults you, no matter how it’s done, can you over look it? The scripture tells us that it’s to our glory, our credit, if we can.
Make it your goal to rise above the insults that you may receive at any given time. Don’t succumb to the pressure.
Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout today. Until next time, Shalom.

Howdy sir simms50! Oh what a difference we could all make in the world if we could just ignore offenses!
