2 Chronicles 30:18-20 (KJV)
For a multitude of the people, even many of Ephraim, and Manasseh, Issachar, and Zebulun, had not cleansed themselves, yet did they eat the passover otherwise than it was written. But Hezekiah prayed for them, saying, The good LORD pardon every one
That prepareth his heart to seek God, the LORD God of his fathers, though he be not cleansed according to the purification of the sanctuary.
And the LORD hearkened to Hezekiah, and healed the people.

It occurs to me that, if pastors are looking for lessons in leadership, we might best get them from the many kings in Judah. These men were more than political leaders, I dare say that they weren’t really political at all. They were, more or less, followers of the Lord, and leaders under Him.

Hezekiah led the people into a revival type atmosphere, but they weren’t all as prepared as he might have desired. The Bible says he prayed for them and the Lord hearkened and healed.

How desperately important are the prayers of the pastor for the healing of the people.

If God punishes them by making them sick then yes, pastors should pray for them to be healed. Otherwise it's good when other people pray for me but I don't consider it essential.

The person most concerned for our own situation, and therefore most qualified to pray for it is ourselves. But God does separate out the pastors for prayer and the ministry of the Word. A praying pastor is a scriptural thing.
