1 Corinthians 11:2 (KJV)
Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you.

I suppose that the primary application of this passage would be that we ought to keep the ordinances as Paul delivered them to us. He is our primary teacher, being appointed an apostle and being inspired by God in the deliverance of the preserved, infallible and eternally profitable Word of God. It is to our praise if we keep the ordinances as they were delivered to us through His word.

On the other hand, it is this application, if insisted as the only one, that opens us to all sorts of doctrinal and practical variations. By holding that we are only holden to Paul, we allow for our private interpretations. Another application would be to praise the church for keeping the ordinances the way they were taught to keep them:
Christ delivered them to Paul
Paul delivered them to Corinth
Paul praises them for not changing them

I applaud those churches, and their pastors, who have felt no need to tweak or change the ordinances from the way they were taught to them at the first. Their pastors practiced the ordinances as they understood them from the Word of God. They sent young preachers to an institution to learn to practice them exactly the same way. They have been and will no doubt continue to be exposed to other practices. It is to their praise that they do not change to those other practices and, if they do change, they do not do so lightly.

To my readers:
First of all, thank you! It is a great joy to me to know you read the thoughts and lessons God has given me in His word.
Secondly, I would love to hear from you. Please feel free to leave comments.

This is another example of how bad the KJV translation is. Compare that to the NIV:

(1 Corinthians 11:2 NIV) I praise you for remembering me in everything and for holding to the teachings, just as I passed them on to you.

I so much prefer a Bible with a history of accuracy and efficacy (the KJV) rather than a Bible whose history has bred compromise with the world, lust for money and doubt in the sovereignty of God (the NIV). That said, in this case, I would have suggested the same application. Just saying. :-) Thanks for reading and responding.

But the end of all things has drawn near. Therefore be sober-minded and be sober unto prayers.(1 Peter 4:7)
