Daniel 11 is said to be the most detailed prophecy given to Daniel.

Daniel 11:2 And now will I shew thee the truth. Behold, there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia; and the fourth shall be far richer than they all: and by his strength through his riches he shall stir up all against the realm of Grecia.

"An ancient Persian Empire environed the Iraq, Iran, Syria, Kuwait, Afghanistan and Pakistan and also occupied-present day Turkey, Palestine, Northern Egypt and Libya around 500 B.C."

MiddleEast

Matthew Henry (1662-1714) A non-conformist Puritan minister in England wrote a commentary on Daniel 11.

In it, he stated that Daniel was shown the ensuing progression of the Persian and Greek Empires, and the Kings of Egypt and Syria are noticed, and Judea was in the middle of their dominions.

The early part of the chapter covers past to present events, that tie to other chapters in Daniel as well as Ezekiel. A short video is posted below that covers these events. (The first two have happened,(prophecy fulfilled) the third is yet to come.)

The "King of the South," was located to the South of Jerusalem, the same chapter in vs 6, also speaks of the "King of the North," which would be to the North of Jerusalem.

Map Gog and Magog

Because the events in Daniel 11 are focused on the Middle East, during a time that Israel was in captivity, and it was the third year of king Cyrus' reign was either 537 or 536 B.C. accoring to "The Expositor’s Bible Commentary" It's believed that the prophecy is about that part of the world, but will effect all the Earth with the final portion.

(Ezekiel 38:1–3). The identities of “Gog,” “Magog,” “Meshek” and “Tubal” are key to understanding the prophecy.

Gog is a person. Whoever Gog may be, he is from the land of Magog and is the leader of Tubal and Meshek (Some translations include the word “Rosh” to the list) and a confederacy of other nations: Persia, Cush, Put, Gomer, and Beth Togarmah. (Ezekiel 38:5–6). Whomever he is, he will have plans to “attack a peaceful an unsuspecting people." (verses 11, 14, and 18). But, regardless of Gog’s plans, the Lord God is against him and will defeat him entirely. (Ezekiel 38:4, 19–23; 39:3–5).

"Rosh," on the above map is Russia.

Part of the third account that (has yet to come?) (Vs 40-41) Are quite interesting.

Daniel 11:40 And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.
Daniel 11:41 He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.

This video made by Tim Schaaf goes into some of the prophecy and which parts have been fulfilled. He goes into the Maccabees a bit, (which I personally don't study,)

"Maccabees are four books of Jewish history and theology, of which the first and second are in the Apocrypha and feature Judas Maccabaeus.
singular proper noun: Maccabees; plural noun: the Books of the Maccabees."

He does a great job showing the Historical accounts.

Daniel 11:42 He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape.
Daniel 11:43 But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.
Daniel 11:44 But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many.
Daniel 11:45 And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.

There's so much involved with studying bible prophecy, and one can go and read 20 different accounts that 20 different people have written, and they will each have a different take on it.

What I find most interesting about Daniel 11, is that some of the events written before their time (By Daniel,) have happend.

Wow --there's a lot here to delve into! Thanks for the references and maps.

That's true! Daniel is one of the few books of the Bible that has clear and demonstrable prophecies that were definitely written before those things took place.

It's very interesting to study, and there's so much to cover. I tried to limit this to key points. Thank you for reading @wisdom

What a wonderful post and really a lot of work thank you so much.

It was good practice, I learned so much about formatting a document! Thank you bigbear.

Years ago my husband was getting his degree after having a teachers diploma. It was my job to type his work, and he had to write 60 folios on Genisis 1.1, I nearly had a heart attack firstly for all the work he put in then typing with tippex. LOL But must say that was his main subject and I reallly learnt a lot.

That sounds like a lot of work! I'm glad that it was a good subject. :)
