BIBLE Study.jpg

I pray that the Holy Spirit will reveal all that we are going to do in this studies.

1 Cor 2: 10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.

If you want to know God to His full extent then I am inviting you to do this studies with me. Today we start with a new series about the Names of God whereby He reveals to us who He is through His names in the bible. This is a series of studies not to be missed!

I am including a comment that @warudo made on one of the studies that is very precious and that is:

It is so important to remember that in our study of God there are two important things that we should seek to know. First, we need information, revealed facts about God. We need knowledge of who God is, how He exists, or about what God is like. But second, we desperately need to go beyond just the facts about God. We need to know God personally and intimately. The facts are the foundation, but the goal is fellowship with God as we learn about His person, plan, purposes, principles, and promises.

NAMES OF GOD

The names or titles given to God in scripture reveal much about His characteristics - who He is, what He is like and what He does. When the Bible uses the phrase the "name of God" or "in the name of the Lord" it refers to His total person - All that He is. And God's name is excellent and majestic.

Psalm 8:1 O Lord, our Lord,
How excellent is Your name in all the earth,
Who have set Your glory above the heavens!

The Primary New Testament names for God

  • Theos means God and is the New Testament equivalent of the Old Testament Elohim or Yahweh.

Titus 2:13 13 while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,

  • Kurios means "Lord" and is the New Testament equivalent of the Old Testament Adonai.

Adonai which was often used as a substitute for Yahweh out of reverence for God's personal name. It identifies Jesus as the Yahweh/Adonai of the Old Testament.

John 20:28 28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”

  • Despotes means "master" and is sometimes translated as "Sovereign Lord"

Luke 2:28-29 28 Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:
29 “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised,
you may now dismiss[d] your servant in peace.

Acts 4:24 When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “you made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and everything in them.

2 Peter 2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves.

Revelations 6:10 They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?”

Abba (Pater) means "father" and denotes the special relationship of a believer to God.

John 4:23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.

Romans 8:15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.[f] And by him we cry, “Abba,[g] Father.”

Matthew 6:9
“This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,

I have done most of my studies concerning the names of God in the TaNaKh. This is an acronym of the first Hebrew letter of each of the Masoretic Text's three traditional subdivisions: Torah ("Teaching", also known as the Five Books of Moses), Nevi'im ("Prophets") and Ketuvim ("Writings").

Thank you for educating us on the Greek equivalents of the Hebrew names of God.

He is also the Host of hosts, which should give us the security to know that we are warriors in the victors army - and we must fear nothing, for fear is the ultimate weapon of the enemy.

Amen to that dear @globocop. We just did that name in the previous study.

Yahweh Sabaoth means the "Lord of hosts" (hosts is sometimes translated Almighty or army) and pictures God as the commander of the heavenly armies.
Joshua 5:14 “Neither,” he replied, “but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.”

As you say in the beginning, that this is the first of, I guess a series on the Names of God! It is a great and valuable study as each Nane reveals different and sometimes new to the student of God’s Word, characteristic of God. I like what you say about the importance of study about God, but the more important to know God! The Bible says of Abraham that he went beyond believing the promise and believed in the One Who made the promise! As we grow in our knowing God, it increases our confidence in Him! Thank you so much! I look forward to future studies on the Names of God and their significance. God bless! William

Thank you for your kind comment @doctorvee. All honor, glory and praise to God!

Thank you very much my sister for sharing that beautiful studio. We definitely have to go further to know more about our Lord. I have always been taught that intimacy with God is very important, and this can be achieved and constantly read his word. May God continue to bless your life and may he continue to give you wisdom. You are an instrument used by God to bless others. Greetings from Venezuela sister. God bless you.

"NAMES OF GOD" / "The names or titles given to God in scripture"

May I point all to the fact that our God has but ONE NAME... and that Name has all the attributes we understand him to be...

See:

Now the question is -- are we all willing to dig into Hebrew Scriptures and face the facts.... AS IT IS WRITTEN...

And why is that NAME so important - Because Yeshua said so... Matthew 23:39
Until for us and our Jewish brothers to say is as it is written: " Baruch Habah B'shem YEHOVAH "
He will not be able to return - and NOW... this will be a reality... Hallelu-Yah!!
