1 Cor 2: 10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.

NOTE: THE LAST STUDY ABOUT THE NEW COVENANT WILL STILL BE ON MY PAGE @hope777 Today I am starting with Christology being the first of many posts teaching us from the Bible all there is to know about Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord!

JESUS CHRIST - CHRISTOLOGY - the branch of Christian theology relating to the person, nature, and role of Christ!

Introduction - who is Jesus Christ

Almost 2000 years ago, Jesus asked His disciples two questions which are still ringing in the hearts and minds of men:

1. Who do people say the Son of Man is?

2. Who do you say I am?

Mathew 16:13-17
13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”
14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.

Many people, religious systems and philosophers have suggested various answers to the first question. To some Jesus is a prophet, to others a great teacher and to still others simply a good, moral man whose exemplary life is worthy to be imitated.

But the answer to the second is of far more significance. For on the response of each individual person hinges not only their

  • eternal destiny, John 3:36 He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”
  • but the quality, John 10:10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
  • meaningfulness - Colossians 3:3-4 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
  • and fruitfulness of their life here and now. Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Thus the central, worldwide theological issue of the ages has been, and still is this: Who is Jesus Christ?
And since Jesus Christ is who the Bible says He is - God in the flesh - all people everywhere need to be concerned not so much about religion, but about coming into and living in the right relationship to God through the Lord Jesus Christ.

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Therefore, there can be no more important doctrine to study than the Doctrine of Christ.
For Jesus took the form of a man, Philippians 2:5-11 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
to explain to men not only who God is and what He is like, John 1:18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son,[f] who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.
but also to demonstrate who man is and what God intends man to be like. 1 Peter 2:21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us,[f] leaving us[g] an example, that you should follow His steps:

So a proper doctrinal study of Christ will reveal much about God and much about man and how man can properly relate to God and to other men. And as with all our our study of doctrine we will focus almost exclusively on what the Bible teaches about Jesus Christ.

Key Christological Texts

While there are many important texts about Jesus Christ, the following are of special significance and should be studied carefully.

NOTE: These scriptures are very long and I will just quote a short piece out of each, but please go read the full texts. These texts are especially important in their teaching about who Jesus is and He came to do.

  • John 1:1-18
verses 16-18 16 And[e] of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. 17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son,[f] who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.

  • Romans 5:12-21
verses 18-21 18 Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. 19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.
20 Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, 21 so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

  • Ephesians 1:3-10
verses 7-9 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace 8 which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, 9 having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself,

  • Philippians 2:5-11
verse 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
verses 10-11 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

  • Colossians 1:15-22
verses 15-20 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. 18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

  • Colossians 2:9-15

  • 9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.
11 In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins[c] of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.*

  • Hebrews 1:1-9
verses 2-3 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; 3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself[a] purged our[b] sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

I would love to hear from you in the comments.

Wonderful post @forgodsglory.
If only 50% of acclaimed christians truly lived strictly by the moral teachings of Jesus Christ, the world would be much more better.
Please include more of the teachings of Christ from the first books (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John)

Regards

Thank you for commenting @luxx. What you say is true. We as Christians should do a better job of portraying Christ to the world. This is also what this page is about, is to encourage a closer walk with our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 2:21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us,[f] leaving us[g] an example, that you should follow His steps:
A new study will start soon on our personal relationship with Christ.

Interesting...I look forward to having some discussion with you on your next study.

The most important New Testament Truth and central Truth for salvation’s requirement. Did Jesus come in the flesh? Was He God in the flesh? Emmanuel! Was He just a good man or the Lamb of God that taketh away the sins of the world? Our take on Jesus and then our response to the Truth will determine how our eternity is spent. Jesus did not teach a universal salvation. There is no second chance after we die! We better know Who He really is and believe the truth about Him.
This is where every Jesus cult messes up. In context the thief kills, steals and destroys through false teachings. This one central truth about Jesus is the most critical concerning our salvation and those who follow our teachings!
Great topic
God bless!

Thank you for your wonderful comment which as always is teaching on its own.
I just want to bring it to your attention that kirbyhopper, (I see he comments on your posts), believes in Unitarianism.

They believe Jesus did not claim to be God and that his teachings did not suggest the existence of a triune God. Unitarians believe in the moral authority but not necessarily the divinity of Jesus. Their theology is thus opposed to the trinitarian theology of other Christian denominations.
(wikipedia)

and one of his last posts suggested universal salvation.

In 1961, the Unitarians merged with a group called The Universalists who, during the 19th century held that salvation was ultimately for everyone, regardless of repentance in this life.
https://www1.cbn.com/questions/what-unitarians-believe

So this is in direct contradiction with what you are saying and with which I am in total agreement:

Jesus did not teach a universal salvation. There is no second chance after we die! We better know Who He really is and believe the truth about Him.

I can only quote John 14:6 again

John 14:6 John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

and Acts 4:10-12

10 let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. 11 This is the ‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’[a] 12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

God bless you too!

Thank you for a in-depth answer to my comment. I realize this about Kirby. My hopes for every person that, in seeing the truth, they would also repent and believe and worship the Father in Spirit and in truth. For this reason, I love to have most anyone comment as long as they are civil.
We have a super full day of ministry ahead today. Starting with speaking at a graduation this morning. Tonight and tomorrow night we are holding a crusade in a village that has many active in witchcraft, manufacturing and selling drugs, even mock crucifictions of Jesus.
Where they actually crucify one another, in a misuse of entering into the sufferings of Christ. This isn’t to death. Some repeat every year. This is one unique place. Advancing the kingdom in a very dark place.

This is one of the core issues in Christianity these days. There are couple of sects here in Ghana, Africa and worldwide who still believe that Jesus Christ was just a man like them. They claim that He has no Goldy nature. But the scripture is clear about this. Jesus is God. Both the old and New Testaments display this truth. Thanks for throwing light on this important subject @forgodsglory
These are other verses you may consider

Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ: (2 Peter 1:1, NASB)

For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6, NASB)

Thank you dear @gadol for commenting and also shining light on this issue, also see the comment of @mhm-philippines above and my reply.
What better scripture than the one you quoted, Isaiah 9:6 and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. Thank you for this contribution to the study!

Dear @hope777,

Thank you for this wonderful teaching on Christology.

Judges 13:15-16
Manoah said to the angel of the LORD, "We would like you to stay until we prepare a young goat for you."

The angel of the LORD replied, "Even though you detain me, I will not eat any of your food. But if you prepare a burnt offering, offer it to the LORD." (Manoah did not realize that it was the angel of the LORD.)

Judges 13:21-22
When the angel of the LORD did not show himself again to Manoah and his wife, Manoah realized that it was the angel of the LORD. "We are doomed to die!" he said to his wife. "We have seen God!"

The parents of Sampson spoke to the angel of the LORD but said that they had seen God.

Have you considered Christophanies as part of Christology?

Shalom Aleichem, Steven Sherman
