Living Water and Spiritual Roots

To the point bible study:

Much of what takes place in the natural realm has a supernatural source. Think of it like a tree. You see the tree, i.e., the bark, the branches, it’s leaves and the fruit it bears, but you do not see the roots. Everything that you see above ground draws its’ strength and sustenance from what you do not see below the ground. If the roots are healthy, the tree is healthy. If the roots are diseased, the tree is diseased. It’s the same for us. If our spiritual roots are healthy, then we are healthy. If our spiritual roots are corrupt, then we are corrupt. The condition of our spirit will be made evident by the physical expression of our lives. Like the tree, our branches and bark are external expressions of our internal condition. Like the tree, our fruit is either found good to eat or rotten to the core.

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned” (Joh 15:1-6).

And he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. And he said to the vinedresser, ‘Look, for three years now I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find none. Cut it down. Why should it use up the ground?’ And he answered him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure. Then if it should bear fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down’” (Luk 13:6-9).

“You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus you will recognize them by their fruits” (Mat 7:16-20).

Our roots are watered by the Word of God (Y’shua – John 1:1, Revelation 19:13), and sustained by the power of His Holy Spirit. We must maintain healthy roots to ensure healthy fruit. Understand that, like our King, we are not of this world. You are born-again into a spiritual Kingdom. Therefore, we must have spiritual eyes to see with and spiritual ears to hear with in order that we not be deceived by what is taking place in the physical realm. Connect the dots by the power and infilling of the Holy Spirit. Do not just be a hearer of the Word either, but rather a doer.

“Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing” (Jas 1:19-25).

Keep the roots of your faith saturated in the living waters of Y’shua. Stay vigilant, sober, and of a sound mind. Endure until the end brethren. Bear good fruit, for the vinedresser comes to prune and to cut away.

“And you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved” (Mark 13:13).

This is very beautiful. I love looking at our bodies as if they are trees. Having a higher power to help keep our roots healthy is definitely necessary. Having a solid foundation with our feet planted firmly into ground will give us a beautiful prosperous life. Our body is much more than one typically thinks. You are right when you say that we must feed our spirit. We must keep it watered by taking the time for our higher power. All of this gives us a healthy mind, body and soul.
