Proverbs 27:17 says "Iron sharpeneth iron, so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend"

"as a relationship in which a more experienced or more knowledgeable person helps to guide a less experienced or less knowledgeable person".

Mentorship is used both in the secular and in the Christendom

Talking about Christendom, why do we need mentors?
Mentors can speak wisdom into your life and also, they can be powerful catalyst for personal, professional and spiritual growth. In choosing a mentor you should consider the description given. Jesus is the one with all these qualities so He should be our number 1 MENTOR.

In the secular we are definitely less experienced in some areas thereby needing a more experienced person to guide us. However, remember that whoever you choose as your mentor is not an angel, he or she is still working on himself to perfection. Do well to emulate the good side and discard the bad.

As a believer, Your mentor must have these qualities.

Be a born again Christian 2Corinthians 6:14.

Have a good Testimony 1 Timothy 3:1-5.

More knowledgeable and experienced than you.

Someone that spends time with God, because true wisdom is derived from intimacy with God.

Self disciplined.
