As I had my devotion this morning I pondered in my heart, is it enough for a baby to be born? No! The baby also needs to grow through proper nurture, without which he may not exist for long. He needs to grow. Likewise a believer, it is not enough to have a new life in Christ , as one born into the family of God. Spiritual nurture that leads to spiritual growth is vital. Regular Bible study as essential to spiritual growth (2 Tim 3:15-17; 1 Peter 2:1-3; Ps 1:1-2; John 16:13)

No one can grow spiritually as they ought to without the deliberate and purposeful studying of the word of God. Like physical bread is essential for physical growth, so is the word of God, which is spiritual bread, is a must for spiritual growth. It contains balanced diets for the soul. No physical bread, no physical strength. No spiritual bread, no spiritual strength. Absence of spiritual bread can make one to be vulnerable to diseases. Likewise, absence of spiritual bread can make one to be susceptible to spiritual diseases. To ignore the word of God is a sure way to committing spiritual suicide.

Regular prayer (Luke 18:1-8; Eph 6:18; Phil 4:6-7; 1 Thes 5:17)

It is difficult to survive without breathing. Spiritual breathing, which is prayer, sustains sound spiritual living. Whenever Satan wants to snuff out one's spiritual life, he stops the person from praying. We can not breathe-in spiritual freshness that invigorates soul from above and then breathe-out spiritual pollution that brings spiritual disease to our system without praying insistently, consistently and constantly. One of the sure signs of being alive spiritually as an act of praying regularly.

In conclusion

As one who is born of God's family, we need to set our priorities right. We need to identify what is the most important in order to prevent premature death spiritually. Much more than we have time for other things that may not contribute to our spiritual existence and growth, we need to have time for God's word and prayer.
