在中国的东北，过年最有意思的是年夜饺子。晚饭后，母亲和姐姐们就开始包饺子，男孩子们经常跑到外面放鞭炮。在电视机还没有普及的时代，人们就是靠包饺子、放鞭炮守岁。11点半左右的时候，家家户户开始烧开水、煮饺子，在午夜12点之前，开始吃年夜饺子。一般讲究在饺子里放一些硬币，以图个好彩头，谁吃到证明谁来年的运气特别好。不管谁能吃到，父母都特别的开心。好吃不过饺子，过年更是如此。
