1937 JJ Gittes aka Jake is a private detective. Suddenly one day a woman comes to Jake. The woman gives Jake the responsibility of keeping an eye on her husband. The woman claims her husband is having an affair with Hollis Mall, chief engineer of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. But a few days later Hollis Muller's real wife arrives and Jake realizes that the first woman to arrive is a cheater.

Hollis Muller's body was found a few days later. Everyone thinks Hollis died in an accident at the mall. But Jake thinks Hollis Muller has been killed. He began to investigate. He began to search for a lot of exciting information.

Various officials work in important departments like water and power. Many of them can go to any stage to achieve their own interests. The names of many important personalities came to the fore when Jake started the investigation after finding the body of Hollis Muller. Some even threaten Jake not to blow his nose at Hollis Mলller. But Jake is not so easily defeated.

Director Roman Polanski must first be commended for portraying the environment of the 1930s in such a beautiful way. An impression of that time has been found in everything from clothes to vehicles or houses. In the beginning, he never thought that such a simple incident would take him to a serious level. There was a feeling in each character that he knew a lot but no one would tell the real story. Everyone has locked their mouths.

Jack Nicholson with a cigarette in his face and a hat on his head is like a real detective. His mind is full of determination and determination not to give up. At any rate he has to unravel the real mystery. The movie features Evelyn Muller's wife, Evelyn Muller, and Evelyn's father, the rich and influential Noah Cross. Whether I went that way or not, maybe I can tell a lot about the story of the movie, but looking at the character of Noah Cross, it seems that he is a very experienced personality. And like many, he knows a lot, but he also sits quietly with his mouth locked.

I'm fascinated by John A. Alonzo's cinematography. In the magic of medium shots, he captures many serious scenes of Jake's character. The view of the reservoir is very beautiful. I also liked the scene of the moving car and the view of Jack Nicholson through binoculars. One of the best scenes in the movie, however, is the background and seriousness shown by the medium shot in a scene where Jack Nicholson is shot in the head at the last minute.

In the case of color grading, a lot of brown color has been used in the color palette. As a result, you can enjoy the beauty of the desert and the reservoir views. The use of this color in Jack Nicholson's clothing and in some scenes inside the house has caught the eye. However, light blue is also used for a while.

The dialogue of the movie actually has a lot of real and deep meaning dialogue. In a dialogue between the movie, it is said, "Politicians, ugly buildings and whores all get respectable if they last long enough". In this dialogue, the bitter truth of living in a social system has come to light. Another dialogue says "Fogert It Jake. It's Chinatown". Then a different feeling works.

The story of the movie seems to be presented step by step. One by one many things keep coming up. Many questions began to be answered. Again, knowing many things remains unknown. One of the best works of mystery genre, this movie is one of my favorite movies. As mentioned above, the story of the movie is presented step by step as the mystery unfolds step by step and a classic masterpiece can be seen in the mystery genre.
