China is now implementing a personal digital credit score which it uses for non-online activities such as booking airline tickets. This is coupled with other activits, or infractions, to develop a personal credit score.

Hangzhou’s local government is piloting a “social credit” system the Communist Party has said it wants to roll out nationwide by 2020, a digital reboot of the methods of social control the regime uses to avert threats to its legitimacy.

More than three dozen local governments across China are beginning to compile digital records of social and financial behavior to rate creditworthiness. A person can incur black marks for infractions such as fare cheating, jaywalking and violating family-planning rules. The effort echoes the dang’an, a system of dossiers the Communist party keeps on urban workers’ behavior.

In time, Beijing expects to draw on bigger, combined data pools, including a person’s internet activity, according to interviews with some architects of the system and a review of government documents.

This is how the score is arrived at.

China announced this week, after Xi became basically Emporer, that the scores would start to be applied.

As Reuters reports, people who would be put on the restricted lists included those found to have committed acts like spreading false information about terrorism and causing trouble on flights, as well as those who used expired tickets or smoked on trains, according to two statements issued on the National Development and Reform Commission’s website on Friday.

China has flagged plans to roll out a system that will allow government bodies to share information on its citizens’ trustworthiness and issue penalties based on a so-called social credit score.

However, there are signs that the use of social credit scoring on domestic transport could have started years ago.

In early 2017, the country’s Supreme People’s Court said during a press conference that 6.15 million Chinese citizens had been banned from taking flights for social misdeeds.

Black Mirror's "Nosedive" had predicted that... Amazing..

I thought of that too! That is crazy, it is literally just like in Black Mirror! I think it is an interesting idea... I think it is pretty neat, but obviously there are some serious shortcomings and problems with it. It will be interesting to see how it plays out in real life!

thats a number

This is called anti-democracy and dictatorship at its best shame !!! It begs the question, is Xi becoming the earlier version of LeeKuanYew? I mean disciplining a unruly Chinese populace? I bet it will come to US eventually. This would only cone under the authoritarian left. We see it happening already, in fact. Welcome to the Future...Dissidents etc will go hungry eventually. This will make Blacklisting look like kids play. I believe that Trump and his supporters are against this type of tyranny, however some also say he does support it afterall. Look at what the authoritarian left is doing these days in regards to social shaming, firing people for social offenses, and boycotting companies. They're totalitarians in the making.

That’s shame, complete dictatorship. I fact, that spreads all over the world eventually. United Nations Agenda 21 & Agenda 2030 contain plans to try & get rid of private vehichles for most people, forcing them to walk, cycle, or use public transport....just like in Mao's Communist China....(he's the one who made everyone wear identical blue boiler suits & caps)

And all this ability because everyone has a smartphone in a totalitarian regime led by an Emperor. Modern day China, with its "Chinese characteristics".

The "gameification" of social control systems. Let's hope that this isn't a development looked fondly upon here in the west. I remember reading about this system a few years ago - there are privileges extended to compliant citizens and more and more restrictions placed on the "bad" ones. Give it a few years and you will have the entire population literally become sheep to be sheared by their government if they are going to go along with this with no resistance.
On the other hand, it's things like this that make me think China may not be destined to become the world's #1 superpower after all. Although there hopefully is much human history left to be written, it seems initially the most free-est states (and of course states with large enough land mass) tend to become the most powerful. The communist party has never stopped caring about trying to control every little thing. Yes, the same can be said about the American communists here, but we're not quite at that point yet thankfully.

It is happening in the US too, but you aren't hearing about it. Facial recognition tech and tracking through social media are enabling the tech giants to construct a digital dossier on everyone in the world. Social control will quickly follow. Soon, convicted shoplifters won't get into stores that subscribe to anti shoplifting services, violent felons won't get rides in taxis or be able to eat in a restaurants or enter a bar. The business of data mining drives it, but you already have a social utility index. Full exploitation will mean many things. One day we will see towns with no public spaces and a low SUI will mean that you can't buy property or live there. Digital rejects will have to keep on moving through and out.

So some one who is caught smoking on a train or using an invalid ticket (which are both illegal) will be banned from using trains for up to a year. I can not see a problem with that, and it will be easy to enforce to as all train and flight tickets require a valid ID to buy and use. As some one who uses the transport system in China I welcome this. To many times people flaunt the law as they think that it does not apply to them.

I think stuffs like this roll reduce crime.

Lol, this shit is getting serious! Slowly but surely we are approaching some futuristic scenarious that were considered fiction few years ago. Social credit score... so if you make some stupid shit in your early years, you get punished your whole life. Obv this will open doors for even more criminal activity.
