'Nail' Homes in China

"Nail" homes are homes who just DON'T want to sell when the government comes to take over their property.

Just a couple of examples.

When three residents of this building refused to move out, the builders simply constructed the highway around them.

The flip side of that coin was a village that was demolished for high-rises, turning peasants into millionaires.

in the Shanghaiist - 15,000 villagers treated to huge banquet by property developers before they move into new high-rises

A compensation deal was struck so that the former villagers were given apartments in the newly-constructed buildings. This means that each villager now owns an apartment valued at around 10 million RMB, South China Morning Post reports.
