The Great Wall of China
The Great Wall of China is one of the greatest sights in the world — the longest wall in the world, an awe-inspiring feat of ancient defensive architecture. Its winding path over rugged country and steep mountains takes in some great scenery.
The Great Wall facts
Chinese name: 长城 (Chángchéng /channg-chnng/ 'Long Wall')
Location: Northern China
Length: 21,196.18 km (13,170.7 mi), all known sections were measured
History: more than 2,300 years
The Great Wall, one of the greatest wonders of the world, was listed as a World Heritage by UNESCO in 1987. Just like a gigantic dragon, it winds up and down across deserts, grasslands, mountains and plateaus, stretching approximately 13,170 miles (21,196 kilometers) from east to west of China.
Construction
The mystery of the construction of the wall is amazing. The construction, which drew heavily on the local resources for construction materials, was carried out in-line with the local conditions under the management of contract and responsibility system. A great army of manpower, composed of soldiers, prisoners and local people, built the wall. The construction result demonstrates the wisdom and tenacity of the Chinese people.
Culture
Great Wall carries a considerable part of Chinese culture. It has long been incorporated into Chinese mythology and symbolism. The most well-known legend is about the collapse of a section of the Wall caused by Meng Jiangnu, who cried bitterly over the death of her husband after he died while building the wall. This legend has been spread widely through textbooks, folk songs and traditional operas.

This exotic place is really stonizing.I want to visit this place.
nice picture, but sometimes too many people on it
amazing sights!
thanks
I've been to the wall twice, both times to the section near Badaling. There is a public bus -- part of the Beijing transit system -- that you can take to Badaling for not much money. Badaling is nearly always crowded, because it's the closest to Beijing and most developed for tourists. Don't even think about visiting during the May 1 and October 1 holidays, or any other public holiday in China. All you will see are people.
A little further away is the Mutianyu section, about 65 km from Beijing. It's usually less crowded, or so I hear.
There are of course many sections of the wall to visit, but some are in poor repair and might even be dangerous to climb or walk on.
And, while the Great Wall was built supposedly to keep out the Mongols and other invaders, it didn't work.
nice info
thanks for sharing
